Amazing what a difference 4 days can make. On Monday we had a major winter storm dump 13.5 " of snow on us. Yesterday, and today, the weather has been more like late spring. We hit 71 yesterday and we're in the mid 60's today.

Yesterday I spent most of my time removing the winter cover, putting up the summer canvas and cleaning the glass and cockpit seating area. This morning I got out early and finished up some cleaning and then got into the ER and did some checking over....NO PROBLEMS.

SO...I openend the seacocks and Started dem Babies up......

They came to life like they were just shut down from a mid summer day on the hook. It's amazing how quick diesels start. They basically just turn once and start right up.

So, the admiral and I, along with the first mate...the dog....are going out for a little cruise in about a half hour. Nothing long, just getting off the dock and burning some red dino fuel.......bring on Summer....and a bottle of advil..

Shut that computer down man and get goin! Sounds like you're off to a great start to the boating season.

All systems A-OK!!!

Had the bay to ourselves....until a pack of four PWCers came running over to jump my wake....Damn season didn't even start and already the A-Holes are out there....

Anyway....a little over 9.2 sMiles and 1.8 total running hours today.....

For now, I have more engine hours than my good compadre Skip for the 2009 season....the race is on....

great to hear! I am pretty jealous to say the least!

Was one of those a-holes a guy named Frank driving this...?

I had visions of cover-pulling next weekend but they're calling for a low of 24 on Thursday and a high of 39 on Friday. I may do some more bilge diving. Hell, I may go skiing one more time (snow, that is)!

I'm at least a month or two away. :smt009

Ron, That water looks like the Willy Wonka chocolate river. Yuck! Dom, I'm so glad you got a chance to go out. I'm jealous. Brian

Dom,
Since buying the 420DA my seasonal usage has been 154 Hrs (06) 167 Hrs (07) and 128 hrs (08)..and 2008 hours were enjoyed even with diesel at nearly 5 bucks a gallon. We put equivalent hours on the generator. (That is the big white (or red) thing in your ER with the engine that is about the same size as those little Cat mains of yours)

What is it, something like a 30 minute run to where you drop the hook?
Is it true you only fueled up once last year?

Care for a friendly wager on total hours run this year? Loser helps Gary hock his books on a late night infomercial.

You in?

Seriousness aside, congratulations on the first run of the season. I will be about two weeks behind you.

Remember to run those impellers until they break up into little pieces, then you can clean the pieces out of your aftercoolers. It is what the cool guys do, or so I am told.

The stakes you suggest are way too high for my budget.....

Oh...and you mean I'm supposed to use the generator? I have to remind myself to exercise that damn thing every few weeks.....otherwise it's just extra weight eating away into my 1.1sMPG yearly average fuel consumption.

Excuse me, the snotty diesel guy forum is just down the street. Go get a room!

BTW, the Willy Wonka PWC belongs to someone we all know and love. I was hoping he'd stumble upon this thread and get insulted ;-)

isn't it supposed to snow 10" next week?

A bunch of wise guys.....

In all honesty, about an hour or more of that run time was either at the dock checking things over or just going at idle speed in my development up and down the canals.

About 2-3 miles was on plane at 21.5 knots.....

Ok - So I went out solo for a spin Sunday Night after cleaning up from my son's 4th Birthday Party. Really exciting to see some summer on the way. High sixtys, sun setting flat as glass, having fun...(pics are not too bad for my cell phone)...carving out a new slalom path...

at 3800RPMs on a pair of Cummins Bs!!!!!

No - burning off the 300 gallons of gasoline I had left in the old boat. Not taking her in until this weekend or early next week for the trade-in...so I figured I need to throw some more hours on the meters and burn the fuel down. It is like $4.50/gallon fuel from the fall.

I was out on the boat last Saturday also, but had some problem with the fuel system and carburetors so I just set in the boat listening to music and catching some well needed sun!

The water was so cold that my "ping-pongs" hurt every time I got in the water to launch the boat off the trailer!

It was nice getting out!

Peter
