Should I Reinstall Underwater lights with slightly different colors?

  • Yes, but they will look terrible.

I have custom thru hull mounted underwater lights from Aqualights that a PO installed. I refurbished them this winter and converted from old HID lights to blue LED's. I removed 2 Lumitec SeaBlaze X in blue in the process. Trying to decide if I should go ahead and mount them back to the boat, while I have her back out of the water

The issue would be the Blue LED's might be a slightly different color, and wondering how it would look. I think the new LED's are more of a Royal Blue. Not sure what the SeaBlazeX are.

I don't know what your configuration is - how many total lights and where they are placed. I voted No, but if you have say 4 lights, and can replace 1 on each side (replace both middle/inside lights, or replace both outside lights for example), it may not look that bad. If you are replacing 2 lights on 1 side, it would look horrible IMO.

I’ve mixed and matched blues on my 3 underwater lights several times, and I have thought nothing of it. It’s completely personal preference. I could care less what anyone else thinks, I don’t have lights for anyone but those who may appreciate, anyhow.

I powered up the SeaBlazeX next to the new lights and they seemed to be the exact same color, or at least I couldn’t see a difference.

The SeaBlazeX will be evenly spaced with the current thru hull lights, and generally speaking set above the prop sockets which will be inside the existing lights.

I should have 4 rear facing lights connected to the same switch and 2 downward facing. I’m thinking this should be a good addition.

Im going to install them since the boat is out of the water.

The 4 facing back must look great! But I don't understand the facing down, most are adding the side lights. Fishing boats use downwards to attract the fish, but for looks I would think mounting one on each side would look good. I am going to do that at some point. Just a thought.

A PO installed the original 4 thru hull lights… he got to choose the location and orientation. 2 in the transom, 2 on the bottom at the aft outside corners.

I’m going to reinstall the 2 SeaBlazeX on the transom…
The middle wasn’t very bright…always needed another light or two towards the centerline.

I think tight above the prop sockets will look really good while running.

Oh..I see what your saying…facing out port and starboard…good idea.

I could add 1 center transom and install these on the outside. Middle rear facing needs a little more light power…always bothered me a little.

I took a couple pictures of the lights against a white sheet in the bilge. Again to my eye they were the same color.
