I'm looking to replace the Clarion M8430 AM/FM/Cassette radio installed in my 1996 Sea Ray 250.
When I remove the trim ring, I can see the slots for the special keys. On this enclosure, there is only an opening on the right side, not the left (the radio has slots left & right, but behind the left is just metal).
I tried the flat key on the right side, but I can't engage any thing to release. When I pull on the "cage" on the left, it will move, but I can't disengage the right.

Has anyone run across this situation before?

Did you figure out how to remove the radio? I have the same boat and Clarion M8430 radio and I am trying to remove mine as well.

Sometimes there is a metal support strap bolted to the back of the radio that you have to remove first.

You may be right, I was hoping that wasn't the case though....it means I will have to remove the whole top part of the shelf/microwave cabinet/etc.
Just to replace the radio....sometimes you just have to love the whole engineering process.........:smt021

I have a similar boat, but I'm not sure if you have the same cabinet. I want to change mine out too. I have the electrical panel beneath mine to access it , but would rather take the entire board out to redo it all.

I had the same issue and couldn't get my clarion to come out. If you are not trying to save the radio, then I grabbed some needle nose pliers and began twisting and removing chunks of radio and components until the thing came out. It was a real pain, but I took my time and the unit eventually released.

I was going to change mine out earlier this summer with an M309 that's been in the garage for over a year, mine is below the electrical panel I did remove the panel to do it but didn't have time to change the plug that day so I just put it back together. With the panel out I was able to pry out the clip with a small screwdriver it just slid right out. Mine's an M3170 here's a scan of the installation guide.
