Hey all. Sorry, I have been out of commission on the site lately. Scored a new job and now fly every week. At least i have a job and still have weekends on our girl.
The recap: Got this boat from Russell Marine (awesome people) in Alabama in November 08. She is a 2005 and had 30 min. on her.
As of last weekend, I logged 100 hours on her and did the oil, gear lube, fuel and oil filters and gimbal bearing service. As well as tightening up the steering cable.
I took her into Sea Ray for the 20 hour service, but I did the 100 one myself.
The only weird thing was when I did the oil change, the draining speed was SLOOOW out of the line that comes through the bilge drain. I then noticed that I had the trailer angled a little to forward. I raised her up and lo and behold..out the oil came...DUHH!!
I have changed out the impeller on the genset and installed a bigger pump for the freshwater system, Works GREAT!
The Sunbrella has just started to wear a bit and actually has ripped on the aft, port side up along the frame bar. Spoke to Sunbrella and they recommended a upolstry company in my area to take care of it. In the meantime, they advised to just keep the back cover rolled up and not use it so as to avoid further damage.
I gave her, her first wax job 2 months ago and unfortunately due to my salf water conditions..kind of getting close to another one. But, I LOVE taking care of this boat...It is my ZEN!!
I have had one incident where I hit not only 1 boat, but 3 at the Chalreston Harbor Marina. SOOOO fricking embarrassing. I didn't give the boat enough time to tell me what she was going to do with the out going tide and S. wind that was coming in and reacted before knowing what I needed to react to. No damage to anyone but me..(thank goodness). My damage was minor. I was able to repair it myself. Couldn't tell unless I pointed it out to you.
She has developed the preverbial leak somewhere and I have been draining about 1.5 gals out of the bildge drain every time we pull out of the water. I have yet to figure out where it is coming from and have ruled out a few things that I learned to check on from the 260 thread. Looks like I am going to have to take her to Sea Ray and see what they may figure out.
The Bravo 2 is AMAZING!! Easy to service and I am able to manuver the boat fine. I have learned (in my own mind) that when I am approaching a docking situation to set up a little ways away to see how she is moving with the tides and wind. I will then put her in reverse and see the reaction, then forward, then choose the best option. I must say the grab pole is a EXCELLENT investment. The Admiral has become quite a pro at manipulating it.
The boat has been performing flawlessly. Been using the marine Stabilize fuel treatment with each fuel fill up and shooting anything I can with the corrosion gaurd after we pull out. The outdrive has not corroded anywhere as of yet.
The Kohler Genset was hard to start after a few uses, but as the owners manual states...you need to close the stop cock after the first try or you risk water backup into the engine. So, I drained the water collector and closed the stop cock after the first try to start and she started on the second run try. No problems with the genset after that.
A/C system is running flawlessly as well.
We have been keeping mold problems contained via baking soda and this moisture control deal I found at West Marine. (Yes West Marine is my second home, the Admiral has put me on a monthly budget over there).
We are taking her to Hilton Head next weekend which is about a 4.5 hour run being on plane as much as possible between the no wake zones. We plan to do it in 5.5 to 6 hours and take our time, conserve fuel and just enjoy the ride.
I was considering getting the Bennett auto trim tab adjusters, but so far..hasn't been that big of a deal. A little crew education before we get up on plane and all has been pretty well. I just really have to hit the right tab adjustment switch every now and then and she stays pretty level. I have yet to even touch the left switch. There have been a couple of gusty wind days that she has done the "clorox bottle bobble", but hell, just slow down and be thankful you have canvas on the bow windshield..cause you wouldn't know it was windy unless you stuck your head around the corner.
Well, that's about it for now. I love this Sundancer....we have overnighted about 7 - 8 times and on our 5th night we figured out the the aft bunk is the most comfortable. More room to strech out. I am nice and let the Admiral have the higher ceiling section.
We set up our laptop on the bow last weekend and watched a movie under the stars while anchored out on the calm end of the Wando. FRICKING AMAZING people!!
I just will never undertsand the people who say: "the best days I ever had with a boat were the day I bought it and the day I sold it." I have 2 words for them.....
SHUT IT!!!
