Here are some photos of our salon that we are updating. I still have the steps and all oak trim to redo.

Nice job getting rid of the swirley upholstery! Did you use a marine upholsterer or a land-based guy. If you've got ER hatches in the salon, how'd you handle those with the flooring? Is that laminate?

The upholstery place was in Indiana. They do boats and RV's. The sofa was an "off the shelf" model that I had them modify the arms to fit the boat. It is a queen pull out sleeper with an air pillowtop. It is very comfortable. The flooring is Allure traffic master resiliant vinyl. It has been used by other members on CSR. The "boards" stick together with overlapping two sided tape. I do have engine room hatches (which I haven't had to use yet) so I went over them. If I need access for a major repair, I can peel up a few seams and remove the floor (it is floating, not glued down).

Very nice! How expensive was the upholstery portion? That seems to make such a difference in making a boat not look out of date. Floors look really good too.

Does the floor come up easy enough for access and still durable enough to reinstall after you service? Or will you need to keep some new on hand to replace a few boards after doing service?

Sofa was reg. $2400 but was last years model (and the exact color we wanted) so we got a heavy discount. The dinette cost around $1500 to recover and new foam. The floor is quite durable (from what I have seen so far). It can be pulled up for service, then only the adhesive (carpet tape) will need to be replaced to reinstall.

Dave,

Beautiful upgrade. That's one of my favorite boats. What year is it? The used ones that I have seen have been around 1999-2000, and I think they all had vinyl upolstery. Have you upgraded the salon TV?

Pleas tell us about your power, speed and fuel consumption. Do you go cruising?

Mine is a 1996 with 7.4l Mercruisers. We are on Lake Erie, and for the 6 months a year of boating that we get, I would say I run her more than most on our dock. We run to Detroit (about 4hrs each way) once or twice a year, across to Canada once or twice a year (2hrs) and shorter 30 - 45min runs at least once per weekend. I cruise around 20-22MPH, and burn about 15-16 GPH each side. Overall it works out to about 0.65MPG.
Yes, the TV was replaced with a 37" LCD with a built in DVD.
Thanks for the compliments. We really love the boat (for our budget at least!). It is a pleasure to drive as well.

Great job on the Allure! I'm one of the other users of that flooring (in my 43 Portofino)
I'm still getting compliments on the floor months later, by people who have seen it already.
My next task on that boat will be to replace the seating in the salon.

I guess you mean "engine room hatches, "seldom used access hatches for only a certain item....I cannot understand one not accessing their bilge to perform routine maintenance and do other checks.

To me your modifications look very good I also am not a fan of the swirly design.

I would also like to see photos of your tv mounting.

Dave
I guess you have alternate access to the engines(?) Last spring on my "shakedown" run, I popped a hose clamp on the tranny oil cooler on the port engine. I quickly noticed the engine temp fly up to 200 and shut down immediately. As I drifted I ran down to the salon and pulled the hatches only to find everything covered in sea water. I quickly found the culprit, put on a replacement clamp and continued on my way. It would really have sucked to have to find seams and pull up flooring to get to the engine room!

The main access to the engine room on the 400DB is in the rear cockpit. The hatches in the salon are basically the entire salon floor, which would be required to remove an engine.
I'll get a few pics of the TV the weekend. Originally there was a 13" TV/VCR combo which sat on top of a cabinet in the rear stbd side corner. The LCD is mounted in the same location with a wall bracket screwed into the wall, and then two aluminum support arms bolted to the top of the cabinet that extend out to hold the bottom of the TV.
