My 2005 Sea Ray has a Raymarine C120 multifunction display that uses CompactFlash cards for the chart data, and the card in mine says 2005 so I think it's time to update. Not sure what firmware version I have, but I'll update that as well if it's older than v5.16. If I understand correctly, the C120 may be limited to 2Gb CompactFlash cards, although the release notes on the Raymarine firmware update webpage indicate support for up to 16Gb CF cards.
This is one way to update the Navionics data in my C120 (not sure if there is another way):
- Purchase Navionics CF/NAV+W ($235 from Defender) which includes blank 2Gb CF card and USB adapter
- Connect CF card to PC and download my choice of regions from Navionics website, up to 2Gb
Is there a different/better way to do this? Any suggestions or comments?
On a slightly different topic, lately I've been playing with OpenCPN on a laptop with GPS dongle. In many ways it's better than my C120, using electronic NOAA charts that I can update as often as I want for free. It's easy to make waypoints and routes, sitting in my easy chair at home. Is there a way to transfer those from OpenCPN to my C120, either through CF card or NMEA connection?
