What is the best way to give the stereo sound system a boost. I don't want this to be a major project just an upgrade to my current sound system. Clarion Cmd4 2006 260da.

you gotta have a subwoofer...it will make a huge difference. I put in a powered "bazooka" and replaced my 6.5"s with polks and it sounds amazing.

make sure you get a nice amp. Nothing worse than great speakers without the juice they need

IMO, any basic upgrade would start with the addition of an amp and new speakers. No muss. No fuss.

You can always add a subwoofer later if you're still not getting the sound you want.

Yeah, stereo upgrades are surprisingly easy.

You definately want a good amp.

Quint4, could you be more specific for the audio challenged like me. Which sub and polks did you use and where did you place the sub?

Thanks, Tom

Definitely getting the right amplifier is one of the most important elements. Poor amplification creates "clipping", which effectively shortens the life of speakers, or simply blows them out. Get an amplifier that has outputs for a subwoofer, and if possible tweeters.

A subwoofer is an absolute must, and I feel tweeters are as well. In any speaker, you want to get one rated for more than the output per signal of the amp.

What you are looking to do is to separate the signal into low, mid and high frequencies. This creates an overall better quality, cleaner sound.

On an 06 260, there is a spot for the subwoofer molded into the seat base on rear facing seat behind the drivers seat. I believe its for an 8" or maybe 10" sub. Where you would mount the amp is what I'd like to know? Anybody have a 260 DA with the factory upgraded stereo system? SB

Here is some pics of my bazooka self powered sub install ( the amp is built in )although we have very different boats..I built a cabinet to house it in my mid-cabin. I bought a sony xplod cd player with a "sub out" jack in the back and an "aux in" jack on the front .... I run my 30g IPOD straight in the front jack.

not a bad Mod there Quint. Looks like you have a video screen there as well. Can you send video to that screen from the iPod too?

Keets,
I have the CMD4 with a 60w Kenwood KSC-WA801 power subwoofer hooked up as well. It sounds good to me. I have a buddy that has a nice stereo system. I think he has 2 amps 1 for speakers and 1 for sub. Those systems eat a lot of battery power though.

the video screen in the mid cabin is feed from the larger screen/player in the main cabin....I can plug my IPOD into the main player to show videos.
