I’m looking to restore my 2001 290 Sundancer v-berth. The previous owner removed the cushions and had a custom made mattress installed. Anyone know where the cushions can be purchased or someone parting out a 98-01 Sundancer.

That's going to be a really tough one. Harder than finding a needle in a haystack (since, according to Mythbusters, you just put the hay in a vat of water and let the needle fall to the bottom and use a magnet to retrieve it). But seriously, it would have to be from a junked boat which are extremely few and far between.

It actually isn't all that hard to make both the backrest and the cushions. The backrest is just a piece of plywood curved around the perimeter with padding. Look around for local upholsterers if it's not something you want to do. Plus, it gives you an opportunity to upgrade/update. I redid my backrest and with a black material (with a subtle pattern) and it ended up looking really nice. You might consider having the v-berth cushions made from vinyl - much easier to clean!

In Nazareth, PA, there's an EXCELLENT shop. I've used them for many things over the years, including redoing my entire cockpit vinyl. Top notch. Plus, he's (Frank) a boater, himself. If you get stuck finding a place closer, here's his website: sabatini coachworks dot com.

Have you thought about contacting the previous owner? There's a chance they're setting in his basement.

I’ve tried finding the previous owner through the Marina I purchased from. No luck there. I figured I’d end up making them but I was hoping I’d find a set already made and then probably just re upholster.

That's too bad - they should (and don't let them fool you, they DO have record of it) have record of who owned the boat last. They could certainly make a 2 minute call on your behalf.

You could try googling for marine salvage yards. But the shipping won't be cheap - especially for the backrest since it's all one piece. And, you can be about 99% sure that it will break in transit.

WOW! You’re saying the entire backrest wrap is one piece? If I had it made I’d make it 2 piece, (at least 2 pieces). Shipping that one piece wouldn’t happen.

On my 260DA it was - along with a few other DA's where I removed that. I'm not sure if I ever removed it on a 290DA of your era, but your v-berth area is roughly the same size so I would assume so. Not that it really matters, I suppose.
