Due to some recent odor associated with flushing this weekend, I believe it is time to replace the vent filter. I have seen many threads on how to rebuild the filter but I have not seen (could have missed it) a thread that discusses how to properly remove old and re-attach the replacement filter.

Can anoyone help me with the steps?

Thanks!

I'm having the same smell with a half tank in minnesota. It's been colder here then normal and i have put triple chemical then needed and still i get smell every flush so i think my filter is ready for a change to.

Its as straight forward as can be. A screw clamp on each end holds the "input" & "exhaust" hoses to the filter. The filter itself is (at least in my case & other pics I've seen) is mounted just above the holding tank with a snap in type bracket.

In my case its very tight working quarters. 15 minutes to rebuild the filter, over an hour removing & replacing it. A word of caution - DO NOT allow the hose to kink in any way!

It should be right next or near your holding tank. It just has 2 garden hose type fittings...screw it off then screw the noew one on.

That sounds easy how often sould a guy replace them.and what makes them go bad.

There is a post or two here somewhere on how to replace them or to make your own. The cannister is filled with activated charcoal or something similar. It is my understanding that they only go bad when you let the tank get too full and they get "liquid" in them.

Worst thing that can happen to the filter is that the tank gets overfilled. Thats how they go bad. Some on this site claim to have gone years without needing replacement.

Best thing for the filter - Keep the tank as empty as practical & add your chemicals after each pumpout.

I just replaced mine a few weeks ago. Took me 10 Minutes on my 2001 340.Solved all my oder issues in the blink of an eye. I put on some latex gloves on and removed the old filter and screwed in the new one. I made my family watch as I took care of the deed. Makes them understand what the captain of a boat and a family will do for it's crew. The filter was only $57.00. I would not even think about rebuilding that nasty filter to save $57.00. I will be replacing my filter every 2 years with the family watching.

Where did you find one for $57? Sounds like a good deal. The cheapest Sanigard I could find was $80-$100.

Oops. Just looked at the web site. They went up by $8.00 each to $67.99. I was lucky I guess. Just bought two last week here for $59.99 each.

Do you know what size to order for a 320 Sundancer? 1 1/2?

These filters should last several years, UNLESS you over fill the tank. When you do that the filters quickly become the least of your troubles.

Just changed my filter this past weekend with a recharged unit I built myself. Removed old filter, sawed it in half, cleaned, glued coupler pcs on, inserted 2 of the foam baffle pcs (cut from a shop-vac foam filter), filled w/aquarium charcoal, added 3rd baffle pc to center, put it back together. Hardest part was putting the cartridge back into its bracket in my tight ER. Pumped the tank 3 times to get clear water. Then added chemical. So I am good to go with charcoal & foam left for 5 more refills - at a cost of around $30. And I will pump out more often.

Last time the g-kids rode the "Super Mable" they complained about their chafed knuckles so I used the $75 savings on 3 pair of tubing gloves.

Hello all, I have a 2001 SeaRay 290 Sundancer that I am trying to replace the holding tank filter on. I cannot seem to locate it. The holding tank itself is tucked forward of the engine compartment access; therefore, I am guessing there is a hidden access. Does anyone know where I find and how I access the filter? I cannot believe boat builder like SeaRay did not install one. Thank you in advance for your help.
