One of my dock neighbors told me that some guy last year left his boat running and in gear at the fuel dock, he stepped of and his boat left with out him. It was heading for the bow of my neighbor 290, turned left and was heading strait at a 100' yacht on the main dock. One of the crew from the yacht grabbed a large fender and jumped on the run away boat and brought it back to the fuel dock :smt101

Let’s say the boat is securely tied to the dock and Jenifer Aniston comes strolling down the pier and says “I want to be ravaged in bed by someone who is bad. You can be the one if you prove to me that you are bad by starting your boat, putting it in gear then jumping off the boat onto the pier. If you do this you can then jump back on the boat, take it out of gear, shut it down, take me into the cabin and have your way with me.”

It could happen.

Please, Jennifer Anniston in Wisconsin? :smt043:smt101

Occasionally, but only for a fraction of a second. Usually takes place when I perform a radical maneuver on the Sea Doo. Then it goes that-a-way and I go the other way. A few hundredths of a second later, the lanyard attached to my vest pulls off the ignition post and the engine stops. Then depending on where I am in the bay I have to either swim or walk over to the PWC.

Best regards,
Frank

Still wondering why the question- whatcha got planned?

To answer, yes I do.
I don't get out as often as I'd like, but will fire up the diesels at least every two weeks. The engines will not warm up out of gear, period. So in order to get them to operating temp and open the thermostats both engines need to be in gear. This is done by running one side in fwd gear and the other in reverse to minimize strain on the lines and pilings (If I were to put both engines in fwd gear, I'd likely rip out the cleat or the new 10" piling). Depending on the water temp, just warming up the engines takes 20-30 minutes so I'll often step off the boat and take care of yardwork or other fun chores in the yard while I'm waiting.

What other reason would there be for running a boat in gear, at the dock?
