want to redo interior

Silver,

I will chime in again. I re-covered my cockpit seats but with original Sea Ray seat skins so it all looks brand new. I kind of like going with the original look there.

As for your canvas, some of the earlier Sea Rays had hull colors that were an off white, almost a cream color. If your boat does not have Artic White I would not go with blues. I had an '87 Sorrento that had the cream hull and the canvas was brown and looked really good. You could also do tans or black canvas. If your hull is white, IMO navy is a better choice (sorry Henry) and a bit more up to date but it is a matter of choice.

You youngsters are always after 'new and up to date'......:smt043

Tail Chaser 661 - Would you mind posting some pics of your cockpit? I would like to do something similar to my 1988 268DA. We're not crazy about the 2-person fixed bench seat at the helm. Also, do you have the large bench seat in the back? The fold-down rear bench seat on the 88 DA's is too skinny and uncomfortable.

Thanks,
chuck

I just redid the seats on my S-24 Sorrento. I bought new Back 2 backs and then realized I can redo them myself. So I just did the cuddy cusions and the rear seats.

really nice :smt038! I'm not to that part yet.

Thanks for the compliments. We didn't change the wall or surface material at all. Just changing the cushion upholstery and curtains to a color without pink in it will tone down the pink and draw attention away from that ghastly crap.

I don't know if you have done any thing yet but I have a 87 268 and mine is more open I am posting a pic of mine and a 270 I was looking at. It looks like they were trying to make a private cabin when they made yours.

I was thinking about removing the rear seat that slides out and using deck ckairs on mine. I hear everyone saying how low and uncomfortable they are I figued no reason to get them recovered. I think I can make a ski & rope locker out of the inset where the seat would fold into. Any thoughts on this Idea?

We have done some updates to our 1987 Sundancer. These photo's on this post gave me some ideas that were great. New fabric and new benches were made and we changed the shape of our cushions but my favorite part was redoing my table. I used the same formica table top but covered it with slate and it looks great.

Your boat is my boats twin brother. I, like you want to get out of the disco and bell bottom looks, i thought maybe painting some of the woodwork, except for the trim. Maybe white or something to brighten it up. You can email me at subarucity@aol.com i have some many questions about this boat it is nice to see someone else have one like mine.

my interior looks like your's,and i like it the way it is except i wish i had a center cushion in the front cabin so your feet dont hang down, you have to hug the sides to stretch legs out,oh well, first sea ray,i'll do some restore on this on and get a bigger one and if you want to go as far as knocking out a wall, i suggest going to a bigger SR in the future, myself i want a little bigger beam,8ft is kind of small as i have found, more rocking, less stable but i still like her as i made a step up from a 19ft.cuddy .

Nice work Nor Cal. Looks great! I really like the one piece mattress in the bow. Did you consider changing the dinette to a couch? I would like to do this for an updated layout.

Thanks for the comments. The one piece matress can be a handfull sometimes and we never use the storage under it but it sure is better to sleep on. We bought the best latex foam mattress that Ikea had and cut and glued it ourselves and then used a nice padded mattress cover.

I've seen several late '80's 340 da's that have converted to the sofa style and I have not seen one that I like yet. I miss having a place to stretch out but we put a new one piece foam mattress in our mid cabin. We covered it with fabric to give it more of an upholstered look than a mattress look. We use it as kind of a lounging area and if we have gusets we just throw some sheets on.

I'll keep the dinette for now.

Here are some things we did to our '89 340.

We also just recently added new interior lighting

There are lots of things you can do yourself. My wife and I designed, made and installed all of the interior upholstery ourselves.

Have fun.
were did you get those reading lights?

Chris, this is a 10 yer old thread so I don’t know if the lights are still available but I bought them from a site called Sailor Sam’s. I have not seen an add for them in a while so do a search and see what comes up.
