Water in Bilge

I had the same problem finding a small amount of water after a day anchored out at the cove. Searching for the obvious leak I found nothing after 2 years searching until one night I stepped onto a damp carpet. I found the fresh water lines were leaking in a confined compartment. Almost all fittings needed replaced as they were old and in bad shape. Interesting was the water showed up only after the boat rolled from wave action other wise the bilge was bone dry.

I had the same thing happen...sort of...on "our" boat. When the boat would get up on plane the forward stateroom floor would get wet. Turns out the hose from the forward ac condensate tray was clogged. So water would remain in the tray and spill over when underway. Easy fix.

Did anyone mention that to the OP? Air condx condensate spillage?

I'll second checking the power steering for leaks. When mine leaked it tinted the bilge water yellow.

But if it is oil it will also float on the surface, so take a sample from the deeper water in the bilge. If it is clear, you have oil floating on top.

OK! back from a little dive trip to Cozumel (ah but that's another topic). Checked on the boat yesterday, bilge is dry. We'll check it more this up coming weekend.

Power steering fluid, hmmmmm...

I'll keep you helpful folks posted! Thanks!

Dive girl has outdrives? If no, inboards do not have power steering. Hydraulic. Hydraulic fluid used to be pink but now it's amber.

Yes, inboards... Hmmmm could be hydraulic fluid. Does it smell at all? We'll be checking that this coming weekend.

Thanks!!

Feel around the bar near the transom that connects the rudders. If it's wet/oiley, that could be your prob.

Pollen, washed off from your canvas and down from recent rain??
