water in oil?

I just noticed that there looks to be water on my dipstick, at the beg of summer there looked to be water on the oil filler cap but the oil was good,(that is when we bought the boat). what does this mean and how do I figure out where it comes from. the engine is a 165 straight six from 1988.

Unless your oil level is rising??? it's probably condensation from having no PCV system. Need more info.

Have you changed the oil since you purchased the boat? Is it being run regularly and getting up to proper operating temperature?

did change the oil and ran about 15 miles with no additional water on the dipstick, good news. thanks
