Hey guys went to survey today 2005 sea ray 42 sedan bridge with Cummins 450. Apparently the water pressure was 30psi and the survivor said spec is 15psi. Is this true

Are you referring to the boats fresh water water system or engine water pressure? Fresh water system usually runs 30-45 psi.

It should be 15 PSI more then that there is a restriction some were causing the higher pressure.
Could be a blockage in the oil cooler or the heater exchanger.
Bad gauge, Sending unit

He seems to think the heat exchanger needs to be cleaned

But also at the same time told me it could wait until the fall so now I’m confused lol

I agree anyone know how much to get the heat exchangers cleaned

Make sure all maintenance on raw water system was kept up on. There is more than just heat exchangers to service. Fuel / oil cooler , after coolers , heat exchangers , raw water impellers. Could get expensive

All serviced 2 years ago with paper work new water pumps this year odd part is both motors tested at 30psi water pressure

Just the HEX...$100-$200 for an easy DIY job. Get some Rydlyme, and pull the HEX. Soak until clean and reinstall. For a few more buck , you could buy/install a recirculation system and get most of the major components in a couple hours. If your new to the boat and need it done ASAP, get someone to come out and do the job for you.

You don't list a location, but depending where you are this is a regular maintenance item. In addition to the engines, AC units will need the same service.

Was this the boat surveyor or did you hire a Cummins certified mechanic to survey the engines? There is a separate thread here that is for the 450 Cummins. Many educated 450 owners there.

Also where is he getting this reading? We have an 04 and no gauge to measure raw water pressure. If serviced 2 years ago it may have caked up zincs in the HE and possibly impeller veins at the aftercooler. What was the engine temps at cruise and WOT? Regardless you are probably due to service the raw water side. The quickest way to get a look is to pull the caps off the HE and get a good view of what’s going on. If those are clogged you need to clean the whole raw water side as the coolers are also clogged.
