Hey guys another question. I took my water pump off to inspect the impeller and it’s a auto water pump instead of a marine style. I’m no boat mechanic being this is my 1st one. Is that a issue? Do I need to get a different one? It’s a SBC 350 v8 1987-1995 engine.

The impeller location depends on which outdrive you have. Can you confirm?

BTW the thing that you call a water pump on an automotive engine is called a circulating pump on a boat.

My man thank you for educating me. I get some weird looks when I’m trying to buy parts. The outdrive I have is a mercruiser 888 or v8 I believe. (That’s what the sticker on the outside says) The circulating pump on the engine has a metal (circulator?) inside it instead of the rubber one I thought would be inside it. I’m slowly putting this boat back together safely from the former owners mess. On the water it would get hot after a long run then quickly go back down to normal temps. I could watch the gauge clump up then it seemed like the pump would kick in and it would quickly cool off. I took it apart and realized there was no thermostat in it. Just put one in today but haven’t had it on the water yet so don’t know if that corrected it. Just want to get it together safely and not have issues before I take the family out. Sorry for rambling.

The circulation pump will have metal impeller. Your water pump with the rubber impeller is probably in the outdrive.
