Three of us took a cruise up to Chicago from Hammond to stay in Du Sable Harbor and see the 20+ Tall Ships docked at Navy Pier and view not one, but 2 fireworks shows on Saturday evening.

Weather was perfect and seas were 1-2 foot and less.
Fed 11 people of the back of 'Dancing on the Water' and all had a Great Time.

Many on here post about Chicago and the Harbor System, but I am here to tell you what a great experience we had in Du Sable.

Made a request for a dock about 1 month ago and received confirmation the following week.
Then two more dockmates wanted to tag along.
Made a couple of calls and managed to get T Head slips for them.
Since this is a fairly small harbor this was not a problem.

Amy, Chirsta and the rest of the employees bent over backwards to assure that we had eveything we needed, including securing a much coveted parking pass in the harbor's underground garage for our invited guests.

This weekend not only included the Tall Ships and related crowds, but Sunday morning more than 9000 athletes showed up for the Chicago Tri-Athalon.

Again what a Great Time we had.

Don't believe all you hear about the Chicago Harbor System.

Pictures are attached and in random order.

If you get down to the Municipal Docks, one of the boats that went up to Chicago from Hammond headed over to South Haven Sunday morning.
Flat Seas and 3.5 hours.

3500 Open Tiara
Becuma

Stop in and say hello to Jim and Barb.

There is still plenty of time left in the season for a trip over.
Also an easy trip to Hammond and a great harbor also.
With these southerly winds, we are having the best boating season in years!

Dan,
Great pics of Chicago's Lake Front and hopefully I will be able to join you next season for trip like this when I move my boat up to Prairie Harbor YC right on the IL-WI border.

Looking forward to that Bob.
Still think you should consider Hammond.

Closer
Warmer waters all season
Great Beaches
Multiple day trips under 3 hours
and
The 'R' Dock is the best!

Dan,
We gave Hammond a thought due to proximity but with the IN boat excise tax, it comes to the same price as Prairie Harbor and there we have a pool and a clubhouse available. Also Skipper Bud's operates the marina and have a service and storage facility right next door.
