That's probably a good point. I had worried about that and planned to use a strap to pull the boat down on the trailer at the bow, but forgot to on this first pull. I'll get a second strap and strap the bow down on the trailer at the bow roller. This should keep the boat from running over the bow roller. Here's a photo of the split bow roller and the trailer with no boat:

The bow roller is also to prevent the boat from shifting forward during stopping. Are you saying the eye has nothing to stop against? If so, and you were to stop fast that boat may come up and over your trailer mast and ....bad day.
