Looking for 2004+ SR 260 DA or similar
Engines
Boatless
Ok, we were originally looking for a 240DA but now expanded our search as it seems there are more pre-owned 260s available in our area.

This is a 03 260DA that is a bank repo. It is not far from our house so we will go and check it out. If we like it, of course, we will get a survey for the boat and the engine.

I am worried that 5.0L is underpowered for the 260DA because its 750lbs heavier than the 240DA. What do you think?

Anything to look out for with the repo?

Thanks!

Looks like it's all there. The bilge is filthy and the OD needs some work but so did mine when I bought mine. The 5.0L has the same HP being an MPI as my 5.7L but I don't think there is as much torque(I haven't researched that) but that seems like a nice boat.
I'm not sure where you are boating but I would consider adding FWC. I didn't see how many hours she had but she looks pretty clean.

FWC = Fresh water cooling? This boat is bound for the Adriatic Sea. Would the boat surveyor be able to tell me what works need to be done and if so can I get a mechanic to do it here in Boston before I ship it to Europe?

What would be a fair asking price given all assumptions you/we have are true?

Thanks!

Yes FWC=Fresh water cooling. I higly recommend it. When you get a survey you'll have to request a mechanical survey as well. Then they can then recommend a reputable repair facility or you can ask here for those Members that live in the area for a recommendation.

It's hard to say what a decent asking price is as that one's not too bad.

Best of luck.

Exactly. A 5.0 doesn't have the torque of a 5.7... mpi or not.
In a 260, a 5.7 is good but consider a 6.2 or 7.4 also.
Sea Ray shouldn't offer boats that are underpowered like that.
However... personal choice again... if you're happy just putting around, this set-up will be the least expensive to run and work out fine.
Don't try and race anyone though.
A closed cooling system (FWC) is a 'good thing' for any application.

personally, I'd look for one with a generator, that one doesn't have it, mine has been invaluable. I also think that the 350 Mag is the smallest engine I'd go with. the 5.0 will get you on plane and cruise, but depending on how many people and cargo you plan to take with you, it might not be enough. mine has a 350 and it has handled 6 - 8 passengers and full of fuel, water, etc.

Make sure your surveyor/mechanic checks out the corrosion on the outdrive - specifically directly forward of the props. It doesn't appear to be too bad from the pictures, but if it is too deep you may have to replace the foot to avoid carrier bearing problems.

Price seems very fair.

The boat actually runs quite good on the 5.0L. It's no speed demon, but it does a good job (hull design has a lot to do with how the engine performs). But, as mentioned above, it all comes down to how you are going to use it. Trim tabs will help quite a lot if you have a big load.
