what does MPI mean?

I have a 94 300 sundancer with 350 5.7 alphas. There is a 97 300 near me with 350 MAG MPI blew water inboards. Are those inboards more powerful?

Multi-Port Injection fuel system. That in combination with the MAG (hot ignition system I believe) might make more horsepower than yours. They make about 300HP.

Thank you. love the boat, but with twin outdrives the boat is heavy.

Should be more efficient and more power. Each cylinder gets its own fuel injector (multi port) vs earlier versions (EFI) where fuel is sprayed through a throttle body-kinda like a carburetor.

A 94 likely would have carbureted engines. Not even EFI.

If you think your boat is under powered, the engines could just be getting tired. His boat probably has better cylinder heads than yours, like vortec's. Not really the MPI vs. carb making the power difference.
