Hello there,

I the last year I have been extracting oil from inside the dipstick. Now I have been told that it is better/safer to do
extraction from the top of the dipstick. So I am trying to make a connecting with[FONT=verdana, arial] thread on the dipstick.

I am measure about 26.5 mm outsite of the thread.....is that the 3/4" thread???

When I do a search all I can find is the remark "....just use a standard garden hose" . But is that 3/4"?

Thanks guys,

gr

If there's another way to ID it, besides "garden hose", I have yet to hear it. The threads are not tapered like pipe fittings. A garden hose is available in either (normally) 5/8" or 3/4" hose, but the fitting is standard.

That being said, the nipple that sticks up past the threaded portion is 3/8" - which means a simple 3/8" hose (or vinyl tubing) will fit snugly onto it. Most times, it works well enough just like that - if needed, a small hose clamp will be more than sufficient.

Garden hose thread has a diameter of just a bit over an inch, that is why you are measuring 26.5 mm, but it is commonly referred to as GHT. If you want to buy an adaptor for your pump line to hook up to your dip stick connection, search for a fitting that is your tubing or hose inside diameter X GHT, and you should find what you need. Something like 1/2" hose barb X GHT, for example.

use one of these available at any hardware store. Get the 3/4 hose size so the nipple you cannot see inside the clamp slips over the extension on the dipstick. Just connect from this to your pump device with 3/4 " hose/tubing.

FYI... the official thread designation for a standard garden hose is 3/4" GHT. There is also a rare 1" GHT.
