Staying at The Office with grandson, 9yrs, a few days fishing for some redfish. Just us two hanging out.

Never heard of a "red" but those two look like they could be related to a perch or Walleye. Any thoughts on that?

Popular ocean game fish. Some call them Red Bass and various other names. Looks like a Walleye but is not probably related.

Where I grew up in Sebastian they were Red Drums,Spotted sea bass, or just spots, they call 'em Red fish nowadays.

Will strip your line out( spool ya), hard pullers and long lasting fight with the larger ones. The first pic was 27 1/2". A nice first of that species for him.

For me, can't beat it folks

Oh lord, that is some of the best tasting fish I’ve ever had! If you get to the southeast, you want to try to find some fresh red drum

Between the two of us we have 6 kids and 7 grandkids. If I'd known how much fun the grandkids are I'd have had them first!

My kids were always brought up on my boats and we all loved it. When they got older and started having kids of their own, the grandkids were always on the boats.

One of my favorite memories is of my oldest grandson, at about age 5, driving my 550. He had to stand up to see over the helm and one day in particular he drove the boat a distance of about 5 miles. He stayed in the channel as we went beneath 2 bridges, between 2 islands, and at the last bridge he absolutely nailed it, going dead center on the main span.

Memories are made on boats and they will always stick with the kids.

Unfortunately, or maybe fortunately, my memories of growing up on boats is working on them with my dad, and wishing I was off playing with my buddies instead. He converted a party fishing boat to an oyster/crabbing boat while working for a small/local custom sailboat builder. I was his little helper., handing him wrenches, turning wrenches, crawling into the bilge, up masts, painting, etc. He eventually quit his job and became a full time oysterman/crabber, and then I became his little helper again, working weekends and days off from school on the water with him.

He also had a 27' wooden sailboat project in the backyard. I spent a summer pulling framing wood screw plugs out of the hull with an ice pick, and then removing all of the wood screws by hand. And then helping him reinstall all new wood frames.

Great pictures and thread! We have 3 boys - 17, 9 and 4.

The 17 year old has no more interest in the boat and that's ok.

The 9 year old is all about boats, will drive the 37' every time I let him take the wheel, is all about driving the dinghy and has a few r/c boats to use while we're in the slip.

The 4 year old just started to steer the dinghy and will fight the 9 year old to drive it this summer I'm sure.

No better way to raise kids, if you ask me...
