Hi Everyone - Looking to replace the locked up windlass motor in my 340 Sundancer. It is a Progress 1 unit and the parts schematic shows both a 700 watt or a 1000 watt motor to chose from. Can someone give me some good working experience as to which one to chose? There is a significant price difference and if the 700 watt motor works, then I would go that direction.
Thank you Gary

What do the markings on your existing motor say? I'm pretty sure it's 1000 on your size boat. it is on my 310. Either way, all other things being equal, I would go with the stronger motor. If you ever try to bring up a big weed ball, you'll be glad you did, assuming your wiring supports it.

Try taking the old motor to a starter and alternator rebuild shop in your area. I did that with the motor on mine and they were able to rebuild it without breaking the bank.

OK Thank you both for the response. Then the 1000 watt motor sounds like the way to go. The old motor casing is very badly damaged from salt corrosion.

Some days I wish I could take my windless to be rebuilt. It's noisy, all the time, eats up too much space and most of the time, refuses to pull up the anchor. Someone once told me to whack the case to see if it would pull better.

But I don't think my wife would like me whacking her "case". And she quiets down after a few drinks in her. And she looks good on the deck.
