Last night we left local night club and the tornado sirens were going off so we went to the local dept store to wait it out. When all was clear we headed back to the boat. At about 3:00 am we woke to another storm and i got on the net seen a tornado whas headed right for us. We left the boat and headed for the bath house. I seen other people getting in their cars and just sitting in them. We waited for about 1/2 hour for it to pass and went back to the boat. at about 4:00 we woke back up to another storm and again I got on the net to find yet another tornado headed for us. this time it was too late for us to get out of the boat so we laughed and laid back down. Lucky for us it lifted before it got to us. 15-20 miles west of us it killed 5 and several missing. My question is what would you do stay in the boat like most, sit in car like some, or get in bath house made of block like small few?

About 10 years ago my old marina mear david bessie nuclear plant was hit dead on. many of the buildings and trees were leveled and the canvse was ripped off of most boats but not one boat was damaged other than canvase.

They certainly don't seem to be as attracted to marinas as they are to trailer parks...

However, don't count it out. Lake Thunderbird in OK this year... And here is a video of the damage... And to prove it isn't a singular circumstance there is this one Temple, TX in 1997...

Any type of physical shelter on land is going to be better than a car or a boat. Not that all of the shelters survive either... But it would be dangerous and misleading to leave people with the impression that tornados don't hit marinas, and that you would be safe on a boat.

I agree the boat is not where I want to be. I was quite surprised Sat night as we made a dash for the bath house how many people were in their boats or cars. Sirens going off and and hardly noone came to the bath house.

I'd get out of the boat and run up to the road where I would look for a ditch, trough, hole, or culvert to lay face down in with my head covered until the tornado had passed.

I don't know, after watching that video, I think the tornado was justified, it probably confused that marina for a trailer park.

There is that! Though I'm sure a lot of marinas would look like a trailer park after a tornado...

Do you know what a divorce and a tornado have in common in (insert your favorite state)? Either way, somebody is going to loose a trailer!
