Whats your trick to priming a/c pump???

While I have the flush caps for winterizing, I just can’t imagine anything faster that the vacuum on the thru hull. I will say I like the idea of putting the hose in the thru hull but I never tried it. Just be sure it’s not the sink thru hull:D

I didn't like the metal flush caps because they use solder. And I didn't trust the PVC bulkhead fitting to leave on the strainer all the time. So I made a flush cap by using a marelon through-hull fitting with the regular plastic cap. https://defender.com/en_us/forespar...c160bb1d5&utm_term=4580153138713961#493=33763

What do you mean they have solder? The ones I posted don’t. They are tapped with bronze screw-in fittings.

@liv2ryde100 I agree the bronze caps are pricy. But they are solid bronze. They also drastically simplify the engine flush process. Use use them after every time I run the engine. Given the cost of Cummins aftercoolers and the benefits of FW flushing, it’s a good investment. I had to rebuild my plugged generator heat exchanger before I put on the flush cap; I’d rather not repeat that process. Having the permanent cap encourages me to do the flush.

I’ll note that I have NOT purchased one for my air con strainer.

These are the ones I am talking about. The fitting is soldered into the cap.

This is from my Princess 56 Fly. It has a Groco strainer on the AC raw water circuit. The mains have Guidi strainers and the generator has a Vetus strainer. I've made flush caps for all of them.
Damn nice work I’m getting motivated

This a close up of the one of those caps on my boat. It’s not soldered. Everything is screwed and has sealant.

What is your concern if there was solder or brazing to affix the threaded nipple to the cap.

Just an FYI. Most all quick disconnects are very volume restrictive.
True. The ones I have are about a full flow as you can get. I only use the flush cap on the main when it’s at idle. Rust gives enough flow to avoid an issue. I also don’t close the seacock so no risk of cooling water starvation.

Where did u get all the parts? They don’t look like Home Depot fittings lol
They are not. It’s from Seaboard, same one you linked to as “soldered”.

The top quick connect is from Ace Hardware

If you sourced an assembled bronze Groco flush cap from Seaboard Marine it is soldered. That's how they make them. On request they will send you the parts and you can assemble them yourself. I am not aware of other suppliers of this product, but maybe there are. You don't say where you sourced them or whether you assembled them yourself, so I can't comment much more on those possibilities. In any event, I prefer to minimize the number of different metals in my raw water sytem to avoid or at least mitigate corrosion and/or electrolysis.

I just saw your post that you sourced them assembled from Seaboard.

I asked Seaboard about this last year and they said, "We often customize bronze flush caps. We drill and tap them with pipe thread, then solder a fitting into place. This is a service we offer, or it's something you can do yourself if you are handy. We usually charge about $250 per cap plus shipping. Includes drilling, tapping and sweating the pipe fitting into place. Plus Groco marine ball valve and male hose fitting."

So unless you custom-ordered them without solder, or they changed their process, I would say they are soldered.

I have the same seaboard marine caps that @b_arrington has. Mine has the fitting tapped and soldered in place. Use them religiously, but hook up the hose directly. No issues whatsoever.

Getting back to the original question I placed a tee in the line after the pump to a line that is run above the waterline with a 90 degree valve. After cleaning the AC system I just open that line while the pump is off to remove the air in the line.

As long as my boat is moving in the water, the ac primes itself.
