I am in Shoreline marina, no fuel dock until 2012. Online I can only find Alamitos Bay and Mikes Main Channel marine in San Pedro. Are these the only two options? Which is better? Anyone have current gas prices for either?

I am having a hard time believing that there are 2 fuel docks for what must be something like 20,000 peasure boats in the LA harbor area. Is this really true? Wow!

We hit the first gas dock as ya first enter Sunset Harbor Marina on the right.
It's entrance is just yards away from the Long Beach Harbor light.

No Head pump-out system (They will direct you to one, and Davies has them on the doc)), but the fuel cost and service is OK.
After paying almost $7 a gal in Two Harbors, any price looks good.

The power of competition: Last time I filled up in Alamitos harbor, Long Beach, it was $4.69 w boat US discount, one gas dock.

This past weekend in Newport Harbor, much richer town mind you, $4.19 - FOUR gas docks. I will be filling up somewhere other than LB from now on.

Dave owns the Marine Fuels dock East side by the Ferry. Mention the Sea Ray dealer, and he'll usually give a hefty discount of all your purchases and future purchases.
He does for us and it's really adding up.

As hard as it is to believe, it is true that long beach only has the two options you mentioned. I cant believe it either. Dock neibor of mine did tell me recently that the LA station has much better prices than Alamitos. Its worth taking a look. Alamitos station will hammer you big time however, if you ever get gas at Catalina, you will start to become numb to the pain, even at Alamitos. $6.50/gal at Avalon and Isthmus. I had to get 28 gallons there last week because we went around the island and used just a bit too much to comfortably come home without any additional fuel, especially because I dont trust gas guages that much and it was rough and I knew my ox was gonna drink a ton of gas. I had to pay $185 for 28 gallons! Holy cow. Second time this summer I've had to do that too.

As mentioned, Newport Beach has more competition and better prices but obviously, driving down there just to get gas wont work since these boats chugg so much gas to get there and back but if you make a trip there for any other reason, it is always a good idea to fill 'er up and save some money.

I used to live down in Newport and kept the boat the there. The multiple fuel docks did create competition and I found that when I picked one and was loyal, they gave me a nice discount for repeat business. I opened an account with them to show the loyalty. I live in W. Hollywood now and dock in MDR. One fuel dock and I am at their mercy. Service is mediocre at best. No discounts. Catalina is rudely expensive and for emergencies only. I had not considered if going south to LB may actually save me enough to make it worth the trip south...thoughts?

I cant imagine you'd save money going to Alamitos to get gas since they are overpriced too (charging about a full $1/gallon to $1.15/gallon more than the typical gas station on the street) but maybe the station in LA Harbor might work for you. My dock neighbor says they have way better prices. I only found out about this recently and havent had a chance to check it out but I will next time I fill up (unless my next fill up is needed anywhere near Newport Beach)

I havent checked the price at the main channel San Pedro station, but Alamitos is overprices as mentioned before. Maybe in 2012 when the Shoreline Long Beach station re opens it will create some additional competition and lower prices all around. Coming from MDR, I don't think you would save money if making the trip just for gas, but if you were doing an LA harbor tour day, I would def fill up down there as MDR was not cheap!
