The old SeaRay had the wing nuts that connected the cables to the battery. Why does my new boat have the battery post connections? Is it because of all the electronics?

Not only are the post connectors more difficult connect or remove, it seems that after a few tightenings those battery post connectors become misshaped and they are difficult to get tight. Does anyone have an acceptable workaround or modification?

Many don't like wing nut connections because they can become loose, then provide poor or intermittent power(& arcing). Most electronic components have WARRANTY warnings about poor connections. Power related damage typically is not covered under warranty.

I use the correct sized SS nylon lock nuts on the battery terminals instead of the wing nuts that come with the battery. When small wires going to the battery get damaged I use the marine rated lugs with marine grade shrink tubing and a real crimp tool that does not release until the crimp is made.

I like this approach so you can isolate systems if needed.

The larger posts allow for more surface contact to be made with the larger wires carrying the higher amps to the heaver loads.
