Will a Garmin 5212 screen fit flush in the center control panel?

I'm thinking about purchasing the Garmin 5212 for my 340 DA (2007). I purchased the boat used and that was the unit on it before but the old owner stole the head unit (repo). Jackass!!!! He did not have it mounted FLUSH into the panel. He was using the brackets.

Can anyone tell me if it will fit FLUSH in the center pisiton of the control panel where they usually install the SmartCraft? I have a NorthStar screen already installed in the port side control panel.

Sorry if I'm not using the correct terms but I hope you know what I mean.

Many thanks in advance.

I can't directly answer your question, but if you go to Garmin's site you can download the manual for that model. In the manual will be the installation directions and a cut-out template which you can use.

PS: That's a "tasty" boat name!

Ha. Thanks Dennis. The "Gabagoo" does pretty good.

I will look at the garmin site. Thanks

I have a 2007 32 and the 5208 Just fits in the port side panel with only about 1/2 " of the wood grain boarder around it. The 5212 would not fit in with out cutting fiberglass and making it look like it did not belong. If the center panel is not 2" bigger than the port panel it will not fit.

Ok thanks guys. So question then....do I go with the smaller 5208 and have the ability to flush mount or stay with the 5212 and use the mounting bracket (which is the way it's currently set up now). Obviously would enjoy the functionality of the 12' screen.

Thanks

I installed the 5208 in my '99 310. The bigger display would not fit. I have not regretts as the unit looks very sharp flush mounted. I also ditched the fake would grain panel and had the local upholstry shop fabricate a new panel.

Articspud,
I was considering a 5208 for my 05 300DA which currently does not have electronics at all (original owner was on a lake, so hard to get lost!). I will be crusing the Chesapeake which can kick up some nice chop on occasion. Did you have any trouble operating with the touch screen when conditions got bumpy? That's been my biggest concern with going touchscreen... Having a steady hand to operate it on plane with wake.

Thanks
James.

I will never go back to buttons again if that answers your overall question. Our waters in the Puget Sound can get a nice chop at times and I have not encountered any issues with the touch screen that were not easily over come. I simply brace my hand along the frame of the 5208 while I make my selection. I have seen people with non touch screen units doing the same. I think my 5208 is superior to my friends older 4208 with buttons in terms of speed and ease with which I can pull up data versus his unit. The menu and interface is much more intuitive.

Great, that's just the kind of review I was looking for!
