I"ve been told that adding a swim platform to a 2012 240 Sundancer from swimplatforms.com will void my hull warranty with Sea Ray. Anyone know anything about this?

Re: Swimplatforms.com VOID Warranty???

I drilled 16 holes in my hull to mount mine on a '92 DA.......that would probably have something to do with it.
What about if a certified dealer installs it?

You've been told by whom?

Re: Swimplatforms.com VOID Warranty???

Call Sea Ray customer support and ask them....the number is on their website. Customer support should also be able to tell you where to find this info in the warranty info that you got when you purchased the boat. Any answer you get here will be anecdotal and shouldn't be relied upon for drilling holes in your boat.

Re: Swimplatforms.com VOID Warranty???

As Tonka said, anything in this thread is anecdotal. That said I have a hard time believing that. An owner could not add many safety or convenience features to your vessel if that is the case.

Do as Tonks suggests and get it in writing.

I also do not like the thread title as it looks like SwimPlatforms.com has created or caused a problem. IMHO

Agree with MM. Call SR and get it in writting (email?). Then I would add one thing, share it with us. Can the title be changed?

BTW Welcome aboard CSR!

I believe you.

When I wanted to add a windlass and anchor roller I was told by "Sea Ray" folks, it would void my hull warranty.
When I wanted to add a swimplatform, you guessed it same thing.

Oh, and I had estimates from Marine Max that would be doing the work. haha
Whatever, I got tired of hearing what I couldn't do to my boat, and did it anyways.
I guess I'm taking my chances.
I ended up doing the work myself. They turned out very nice if I say so myself.

Was this in writing from Sea Ray or Marine Max?

This is an interesting discussion..

Nothing in writing, I spoke to Sea Ray tech dept, and the warranty people.

The Marine Max folks called and talked to Sea Ray for me also. They got the same answer.

Re: Swimplatforms.com VOID Warranty???

With the anchor roller "they" told me they couldn't be responsible if the bow tore off! haha

Oh, they did have an "approved anchor roller" for the 240da, which I bought and installed. It was junk! You couldn't store the anchor on it and there was no provision for securing the anchor line without chafing accross the roller to get the line to a cleat. It was a joke of and anchor roller. The roller design was changed due to the nav single light on the bow. The Coast Guard would not allow the light to be impeaded.

On my non approved roller and windlass set up I changed the nav light to a split design.

Re: Will swimplatform from Swimplatforms.com VOID Warranty???

As many of us, I put a platform on my 270 and didn't even think about it voiding the warranty.

Does that mean when I had the dealer drill a hole in my 310 for wash-down sea-cock they voided warranty?

Re: Swimplatforms.com VOID Warranty???

I also did a no no in the trim tab arena.

I added Nauticus auto tabs "inside" of the standard bennett trim tabs. They work awesome! Slow speed wander is non existant. I basically use the bennets to trim side to side, and also do "regular" trimming duties.

I'm just a bad boy on the edge! haha

I don't know, you'll have to call Sea Ray and ask them.

Re: Swimplatforms.com VOID Warranty???

I have no problems at all with swimplatforms.com. They are great company. Bought one for my Bayliner a couple years ago with no problems. I wanted to do it with my new 240DA, but was told by sales rep. that doing so would void the hull warranty. I asked swimplatforms.com, and they told me they would be surprised if it voided the whole hull warranty. I will check with sea ray directly and find out.

You may want to look into the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act as it may apply in these cases. I think it states that unless your warranty (the paperwork you received with the product) states if modificiations to the product are made the warranty is voided, then the warranty is still valid and MUST be honored. Look into as I read it quick but that is what I got from it and please correct me if I am wrong. But you might also want to look at your warranty packet you received with the boat. The reason you may not get any paperwork that states such, is that is may not be written in the warranty and they can't produce such paperwork.

If you are drilling large holes in the transom and adding something that weighs a good amount plus will carry quite a bit of weight I would have to say it would void the hull warranty if it started cracking/leaking anywhere near that platform.

If the hull blisters underneath or the foredeck delaminates I cant imagine them blaming the swim platform.

Like anything else in life common sense prevails, as mentioned best to call Sea Ray and ask, if they offer an extended platform option that can be added that may be better if you are worried about the warranty. Even though I'm sure it will cost quite a bit more then aftermarket.

I had the dealer install mine that I had shipped to them from swimplatforms and they never raised any flags or comments about the warranty.

Since I bought the boat new from them, if I ever had an issue I'd bet I'd have a good shot in court arguing my case that if it would void the waranty, they shouldn't have taken on the job.

Just a thought/guess...

I wonder if the good guys that departed searay recently have been replaced ,and if the new guys are going to try and change warranty handling policies that have been celebrated by a lot of people on csr.I dont meen to steal the thread but was thinking it might tie in.Glen

I am shocked that you would install after market tabs on a Sea Ray.
