I checcked all post and I can not find my problem. Before I start messing around with my windlass (Lofrans) I will like to ask:
I have a 1997 Sundancer 40'. The switch at the helm and the foot switch at the bow does not work, it makes a click sound and nothing happens either up or down.
Any suggestions on what to check? I don't think it is a fuse because it is clicking.
Thank you in advance for any advice.

I don't have a Lofrans I have an Anchorlift but I imagine they both are similar. The switches operate a large relay (mine is located in the anchor locker) this relay sends the voltage to your windlass motor. If your hearing a clicking sound it may be coming from the relay. The relay uses a small amount of current compared to the actual motor which should have its own fuse/circuit breaker. I would find and check that.

Giangi, there should be a resettable thermal breaker in the bilge, it should be about 100 amp breaker maybe even more, probably mounted on the bulkhead in close proximity to one of the battery banks. When tripped, the little arm on the breaker will swing down into an almost vertical position. Swing it back up to a complete horizontal position and make sure it locks / snaps back into position.

I had the same exact symptoms that you are having, and that solved my problem. Good luck to you...

Mine was clicking also, I had to change the windlass motor. I called Loferns and got the motor from them. There are two nuts on the motor that comes off and the motor should seperate from the housing. If it doesent then you have to pull housing off and pry the motor off.

Good Luck

I just had the same problem. I have a progress II( holds 8.5 oz's of 90 wt ). I had to have the motor rebuilt locally and upon re install had oil in the locker and around( maybe 5 oz ). Called (Imtra) Lofrans and they said there should not be any oil. Sent it back today to Imtra for a rebuild 2 day air. Delt with Jim Thomas @ Imtra and the service and information is top notch. Heads up, parts could not be so available. Will up date.

+1 I had this happen too and after resetting the breaker everything worked fine.

I don't know what happened Carter, but it works for me. Anyhoot it's just a picture of the actual breaker that I copied the link from "Sea-RayParts.com"....

You can check if you have power at the windless motor with a meter or test light. If you do not have power it is most likely the power source such as the breaker or lose wire etc. If you have power you have a problem like mine electric motor or gear case or both( lucky me ).
Good Luck,

Carter, I just checked the link from my Iphone using "Tapatalk" and it works...
