I have a 1990 Searay Sundancer 270. The aft engine compartment bilge pump runs all the time with the compartment dry and a buzzer is sounding under the dash panel. It runs even with the batteries off. Does anyone have how the bilge pumps and warning buzzer are wired?

Thanks

Jim

The pump is wired directly to the battery (no switches) by design. I suspect that if your pump has a built in float switch, it is stuck in the up or on position. The bottom of the bilge can be a nasty place. See if the float isn't all gunked up. You might get away with just a thorough cleaning.

You have two bilge pumps, a low water pump and a high water pump. The low water bilge pump can be actuated either by the float switch on the pump or you can manually turn the pump on at the dash. The high water bilge pump, I believe is only actuated by the built in float switch. I don't know what the alarm wiring is. Both pumps, however, are direct wired to one of your batteries. You can not turn the pumps off by turning the battery switch off.
