Would you Buy Now and How Far?

Born, raised, grew up, married in Cleveland, winter of 85 was bad, one night December i was out shoveling drive and the blizzard blew it back in my face. Threw shovel down, walked in house, told wife i ain’t living rest of my life like this. 2 months later we were living in MD with our first boat a couple months later, no regrets. Keep that snow sht.
You can go further south for better weather but we like MD cause you still get 4 seasons.

We looked for about a year. Found a few that were what we wanted. But just didn't fit the complete list. And like said to death here, we traveled to every one we looked at. Now, the one we really wanted was locked up with a bad broker in FL and just wouldn't play nice out here in the PNW. I even talked to the owner of that boat and he was locked in legally for another 2 years. We got one that was 5 hours away for an ok price at the end of Oct. Tented it and worked on it through the winter. All is good now.

As for the bubble deflating, I think that isn't going to happen any time soon. With the shortages of metal parts and the costs of manufacturing, it's here for a while. Dealers not able to get parts just to maintain. And lets not get into the costs of what it in the market right now.

I still look around the region, and there is almost nothing in the 26' to 35' range for boats. Above that there is some but prices are way up there.

I drove 14 hours round-trip twice to do the deal on my 400. I looked at it as two road trips with the potential of buying a boat. I also stocked up on brands of beers I couldn't get in Michigan each time.

I did the same for my 340 but it was closer to an 8 hour round trip. That one took me through Yuengling country. My 400 took me through Spotted Cow country...

We drove about 700 miles to get the previous boat back in 2010 and this time we were in the market for almost 2 years before we found the "right" boat for us - And we drove about 800 miles to get this one. It was a total adventure both times but I wouldn't trade the experience for anything and the fact that we found the exact boat we were looking for at a price that was actually hard to believe in this current market.

Take your time and find your boat and be willing to go and get it. I live less than 2 miles from my slip and traveled to another lake for our current boat.

The seller had 3 other prospective buyers willing to fly to his location and buy this boat. I'm surprised he stuck with us and didn't sell it out from under us. Sometimes deals are just meant to happen I guess. We're very grateful and the drive & experience was 4 days of moving and shaking but we pulled it off. This includes finding a trailer that was custom made for a 280 DA about 4 hours further away from the boat. 15 hours none stop to get it home after loading the boat - quick nap, then back to my job that was 5 hours away. That was a beat down but the stars lined up that's for sure....and we have a great boat and a great story to boot!
