Glad I ordered 3 gallons last year. I had to order another gallon of Quicksilver 25w40 Synthetic blend. Last year it was $35.24 on Amazon now I just paid $53.95 before tax.

Edit.. Just went on my Amsoil account and ordered next years oil also. The same 4Qt's cost $38.36 with free shipping. If you buy a case it's cheaper. If anyone is looking, start an account for $10 and save 25% with free shipping for 6 months.

Been using amsoil 15w-40 diesel and marine in my 6.2’s for 5 yrs now. Currently 11.79 a quart. Still cheaper than the blended 25-40

figured a full syn wouldnt hurt. They run at 3,600 rpm for hours on end with no oil coolers and only 4.5qt capacity

It looks like the non-synthetic went up by $10 a gallon. Not quite as bad as you fancy blend guys :)

So may as well hijack. Quicksilver Synthetic blend or regular stuff and why?

Oh no!!

Do you want to buy oil, let it sit for a year+, just to save a few nickels? I don't know, to me this is one of those "I don't do it that often" things where the savings is a big deal.

I run synthetic in my cars, dino oil in my boat. I do this 1.) it's what the manual calls for, 2.) the boat gets very little use compared to cars, 3.) my boat runs only in fair weather and doesn't have to deal with wicked cold starts and most importantly 4.) I had no fricken idea Quicksilver had a synthetic blend until this thread was created today :)

Don't think about upgrading your boat to diesel, each of my motors holds about 9 GALLONS!

So Quicksilver originally had a full synthetic when I bought the boat in 2007. After a few years they dropped it and recommended the synthetic blend. So I have always used it the synthetic blend after they stopped synthetic. I spoke to the service manager at Marine Max back then and they had a whole briefing on why the change and decided the synthetic blend would be the best for me. It is easy to pick up when I get my winterization supplies from a local boat shop.

Straight 40. It’s on the valve sticker and local SR dealer said so. Suzuki gets 10-30, cause manual says so. I don’t know more than the guys that make the engine so I always do what told.

If I were to use Quicksilver I would use the synthetic blend. After years of working on diesel construction equipment I realized that the engines we used synthetic in were in better shape and needed less maintenance. Very anecdotal, I will admit. But since my warranty on my boat expired I have been using Rotella T6 full synthetic. Comes out almost as clean as it went in. I do use Quicksilver filters though.

Mobil 1 10w-30 plus the Lucas zinc additive.
The synthetic oils have better heat and cooking resistance.
My engines have the roller lifters so the lower weight flows quicker to the needle bearings in the lifters and also throughout the operation. The zinc is added for it lubricating properties but do not use a zinc additive if the engine has catalytic converters.

I have been using Liqui Moly in my BMW 335i. For grins and giggles I sent an oil sample to Blackstone Labs. They literally said it's one of the best samples they have ever seen. Wondering if I should start using it in my other cars and the boat.

My gear head son would only use Royal Purple in his rice burners. But he switched to Rotella when he saw how well it held up in the boat.

Which Rotella would be the closet to Merc Synthetic blend? I use the synthetic blend 25w-40 but my 2010 Mercruiser book calls for 20w-40 full synthetic which I can never find?

You cannot find it because it is not made anymore. I am sure there is a service bulletin superseding the full synthetic. It likely calls for the blend.
