454 mercruiser, v-drives
Good afternoon all! Just purchased a sea ray 350 with twin 454 v drives. Boat is on land already. Without starting up the engines, how can I tell which rotation engines I have? I purchased boat with a lower end knock on starboard engine. Looking at the firing order on the dist caps, it looks like they are both 18436572 in a clockwise order so I would assume they are both standard rotation?? It has hurth zf v drives. Does anyone know for sure if one motor is standard and one is counter- and if so would it be port or starboard? Thanks in advance

Ask your surveyor. You did get it (a 35' twin engine) surveyed? Of course you did. Ask him.
I did not. I purchased a boat with a bad engine so i know it needs work. I will need to get a survey for the insurance quote I’m assuming but I did not get a survey before purchasing. I will figure out if the engine is counter rotation before I pull it- just figured I would ask here quick if someone knew.

Your engines are most likely both standard rotation. The counter rotation is in the transmissions. Check the trans linkage to see if one is reversed when the shifter is in forward. That will confirm.

Thanks. I’ll check

Did you get your 350 re-engined? I did both with new 454's several years ago.
