Hello everyone,
I am new here I just got my first cruiser a 1998 290 sea ray sundancer. I had No idea how much was involved my last boat was a 1996 18' bayliner. This is all new to me and I was wondering if you gentelmen could help me. First it came with no manual that mean I'm standing and woundering how to do everything.I picked up a few things myself now the main cabin control panel ac,dc confuses me?

I have no idea what ac converter means, power haed is or pump does? I love the boat(cruiser) but need help everything seems in order but one thing concerns me there is a floor panel on the cabin floor/ what is it for and it seems to be taking in little water? the engine conpartment seems to be dry the are some bilge pumps there bit not in the cabin floor compertment? can I seel it if so what can I use the servayer did not mention it?

Can anyone give me some insight on this matter and the control panel issue. I would love some help on a manual looked everywere on the net can't find one could you guys help me..please Thank you all on this matter Tony.

Welcome aboard, Tony.

Try going directly to Sea Ray's site for the manual. If you can't find one specifically for your year, try a different year and/or a different (but comparable model).

AC Converter = Battery Charger

AC is like your house. Used when you are hooked up to shore power (or genny).

DC is like your car. Uses your batteries.

Head is your VacuFlush (toilet) system. It uses vacuum to suck the nasty stuff into a holding tank.

I'm not positive, on your model, about the "pump". It could be the fresh water pump. Do you get water from your faucets with it off? If it does control that, you'll need it on in conjunction with the "head" for the toilet to operate properly.

Also, don't be afraid to use the search function on this forum. There is a tremendous amount of info on this site - just waiting to be read! More than likely, you'll be able to search and find most, if not all, of the basic questions you will have.

Thanks for the reply Dennis,
What is that hatch in the floor in the cabin storage? I get a little water there can I caulk it??? or is it there for that reason?? thanks for the info.

One thing how long do I leave the head on for just to poop then shut it off? Also the hot water heater just to take a shower then shut it down or can I leave them head button and the water heater buttom for the stay on the boat? thanks again dennis.

Doesn't matter on the water system pump. You can leave it on or turn it off.It has a pressure sensor that only lets it run when needed. You'll hear the pump run when a faucet is open.Turn the faucet off and the pump will shut off shortly.if it doesn't look for why.Things do leak.I wouldn't leave the pump why away from the boat.

The hot water heater draws a ton of power from 110v.use it only when needed.

12v is DC power. That is run off your batteries.

110v is AC power that is run only off shore power hook-up.Most large things like Air-Cond/water heater/battery charger/microwave/fridge are 110v DC.

The fridge is an exception. It will run on 110v or 12v.You have a switch.110v is automatic if hooked up and switch is on.

That compartment is more than likely an inspection hatch. You might want to find out why there is water in there. These boats do tend to have leaks in heavy rain. They might be a bear to track down.

You can leave the head on, too. No reason to leave it on, though, while you're away.

In my 1998 SR290DA, the floor compartment is storage, much like ski storage in a runabout. Mine is carpeted inside. We keep rarely used stuff in there since it's covered w/carpet runner and "pita" to get into. Can't imagine why yours has water tho.

I have the manuals on my flashdrive which I happen to have with me. Can email if you like, PM me w/your email address.

Leave the head on while at the boat as it has to keep pressure in order to flush. When you flush you'll hear the vac pump working. Turn off only when you leave for home. The boat will use dock water while in the slip. Make sure the water tank is filled so you can turn on water pump when out on the water. I think it holds 30 gals. The pump won't run unless you use some water. If you need extra water in the head, pull up on the foot lever to add water in the bowl. Good idea before "pooping". Turn on the water heater (holds 6 gals) about 10 min before you want to shower, etc. Then turn it off when finished. It stays hot for a long while. On my boat, running the engines will also heat the water. Don't turn the water heater on if the water tank has been emptied and you are not hooked up to dock water. Guess what a new water heater costs!

My searay has pumps in the saloon floor that collect shower water then pump overboard.

Loose clamps etc or leaky plastic holder could cause a leak.

just a thought
