200 Sundeck Thread- Questions and Answers

I have a Garmin 440S and have it mounted on the windshield with a Ram Mount suction cup. Allows for easy adjustment, plus you can take it with you for added security.

I can post a picture if anyone wants to see.

would love to see the mounting. I am looking hard at that unit

GPS mounting ideas for a 200 Sundeck....Any of you guys have them? What unit do you have? How is it mounted?

I have a Garmin 60Csx I have it mounted to the windshield via sunction cup and ram mount. never had a shaking problem and adjusts to any angle. when I am sitting I have it facing srait at me and when I am standing (most of the time) I having it laying flat looking strait up at me. I actually have it suctioned to my right side window. Works great.

Has anyone had any timing chain cover issues? I was out on the river last weekend and got an oil pressure alarm. When I opened the engine compartment I found all my oil in the bilge. Marine max said there was a leak in the timing chain cover thus expelling all my oil. Mercruiser said they would cover about $1000 of the $1482 then they checked with the extended warranty folks and they agreed to pay for $1200 so I am left with $282. They also said my engine was running cool so they are replacing my thermostat.

I like your set up. Do you have any problems with it vibrating? And I'm guessing that you never sit flat on the seat so visibility isn't an issue.

No problems with it vibrating or coming off when hitting a large wake. The Ram Mount is adjustable so when I am sitting down, I can adjust it without having to re-stick the suction cup mount. It's a simple setup and gives me the flexibility to adjust it however I want and easy removal for when I'm not boating.

Now I am torn between a smaller unit and a bigger unit. I plan on having the current boat for sometime and dont use the GPS but maybe 5 times per year tops.

No problems with timing chain cover....unfortunate for sure. hope all goes well and your back on the water soon

Hey Weave, do you have a ski locker in your floor? Mine does not and I can't figure out for the life of me why they would not put one in our boat.

Nope....no locker. Funny you should ask since that was my only gripe too!
Judging by the layout of the floor and fuel tank placement it would seem difficult to put it in the normal spot. I store mine in the port side lounge locker when I bring them. There is a panel with two latches that opens up to the stern area.

Have you guys thought of any use for the storage area in the aft section inder the starboard walkthrough where the small hatch door opens under the step?

BTW....thanks for your help on the GPS guys. Looks like I may pony up and buy the Garmin440....Now If I could find a way to mount it without drilling holes I will buy it.
Wonder if Jim is giving the $ 100 Garmin rebate!

I take delivery of my 2008 Sundeck 200 5.0L BIII tomorrow...
I now know what the saying 'giddy as a school girl' means!!!:smt038
See you on the water!

Congrats skosbu....nice set up....My next rig will certainly be a dual prop. What color and options did you get?
Post some pics when you can.
Where are you out of?

It was the last one in stock (WE GOT IT FOR A STEAL!) so I took what it had...The options are: wakeboard tower (which helps store the ski's!), covers, boarding ladder...most of the stuff they put with all of them.

It's the navy blue. I'll post pics when we're back at the lake (this weekend). We were on the lake all weekend last weekend but I forgot to take pics! If you can't tell (on the lake all weekend the first weekend in April), we are in the south...Lake Oconee (outside Atlanta) is where we do all of our boating.

Hi Guys,

Well I just purchased a 2005 200 Sundeck. Its got a 4.3 I didn't realize it wasn't the 5.0 until after my wife fell in love with it and left the non-refundable 5k deposit. GRRRR!! I'm hoping its not grossly underpowered. Its in great condition the interior is 99.9% mint. Its a SUPER clean boat and well taken care of. 60% of the time its just the two of us cruising, the other 40% of the time we have our two sons and do the full watersports weekend extravaganza.

What is everyone getting for cruising / top speeds?
How is the fuel economy boating with the 4.3?

Thanks in advance

CT....I have the same boat and was leery of the performance before buying it.....I have not been disappointed at all. Depending on where you cruise for RPM's will guage your fuel economy.
I find she cruises nice at 3250-3500 and roughly 34mph(guage).....I think I remember getting it up to 49-50 with just wife and I 3/4 fuel.

I too have the same set up. I run around 35 fully loaded (five kids, wife, myself, yellow lab, a large cooler of Corona and a few juice boxes) I don't think you will be disapointed. It's a great boat, don't dwell on it, just have fun and enjoy the beginning of a great boating experience.

Great well, I hope to have her out on the river and in LI sound this weekend for her maiden voyage. I know the 4.3 sounds more fierce than I expected while in the drive way on the muffs and garden hose.

CT, She looks sharp. Congratulations and enjoy the season. Let us know how she runs and if your satisfied with the power.
