300 Sundancer Visor Panels

Our visor panels were in really bad shape. They shrunk and were impossible to install. We're trying to get some extension zippers, but none of the zippers seem to fit. What's on there is YKK but the YKK replacements don't work. Does anyone have any experience with this? One vendor told me that YKK has purchased a bunch of smaller manufacturers.

@KevinC is on this site and can sell you factory fit panels and basically all of the canvas and isinglass as it came from Sea Ray, as long as your piping is original.

@Bill Goetz: YKK is a Japanese zipper manufacturer and they have several size zippers and types (and probably has a 50% market share). If the zippers are not the same type or size they will not work. This is especially true with the #8 Vislon zippers commonly used on Sea Ray boats where many shops use #10. Very small difference but will not work together.

We've already had the plastic replaced on the three front pieces and were hoping that it would fit, but no go. Our best option at this point is to get zipper extensions. Have tried a couple, but no match!

Sorry to hear that. Did the shop happen to ask about the fit before replacing? Frequently a customer will want to replace the eisenglass because it fogged or shrunk and I ask them about the fit and if they report it has shrunk I will not want to replace without seeing it on the boat. I also like to assess the panel because if the eisenglass is shot and the zippers look dried out or the velcro is wearing out then I will generally recommend a whole new panel.

Unless the zippers were replaced by a previous owner they are most likely YKK Vislon #8 zippers. These are 7 TPI (teeth per inch) where as the #10s are 6 TPI. Its hard to tell them apart visually without measuring or comparing to another.

Thanks for the info. I measured what I have against your #8 picture. Looks identical to mine. So if that's what they send I'm confident. BTW do you sell the extensions and if so what is the pricing.

We do not have a specific product but we can certainly fabricate them for you based on your needs. We can use #8 or #10 zippers in either black or white and they can be mixed as shown. These in the picture add approx inch additional to the reach. These can also be used to convert from one size to another. We double stitch them as shown on the second - however we would normally use white thread on a white zipper - but this helps to show the stitching. Most of the time we use the same colors.

Since we make these to order price is based on the size and configurations needed. For example a black and white zipper will cost more because we need to pull two zippers to make the item. If you would like more info please fill out the form and I will take our discussion direct via email.
