Just had survey on 2006 44DB came back with worn/ cracked cutlass bearings surveyor recommended to repair replace at some point. How concerned should I be is this just normal 17 year wear and how big of a job is it?
Thanks guys

Normal wear and tear on a 17 year old boat. It's a job, but not necessarily that difficult. Marina would probably take a couple hours per side.

That was certainly not my time frame... Props removal, couplers disconnected, shaft nuts removed, shafts extracted, struts sanded, wire wheeled, 2-3 set screws discovered and extracted, a sawzall to the existing bearings, removal.... and installation of everything again. This was closer a two day job and at times it took two people.

Did you do it yourself? or have the marina do it? I know when I had it done on my older boat it was one of the least expensive maintenance jobs. Of course it will also depend on how ”stuck” everything is.

My marine mechanic and myself... The coupler bolts needed flame after 20 years in place.

Did mine myself with the aid of a friend. Wasn't a complex job but it was a PIA. First side we did we didn't get all the set screws. You won't be able to tell until the strut is out. The second side came out much easier but we galled up the tool so that was another pia. The tool cost about $400 and the marina charges about $500 (without the struts). Definitely a job i would gladly hand over to the marina next time.

If it can be done without pulling the shafts you're probably looking at $1000-1200 for parts and labor.
