I am trying to figure out how much my boat weighs. If you go to the Sea Ray website and look at the spec sheet for a 2005 48 Sundancer, it says the boat weights 28,000 lbs. Seems a little light, but that is what it says. If you look at the spec sheets for the 2006 or so thru 2011, it says the boat weighs 34,000 lbs or so. If you look at the 2012 spec sheet, it says the boat weighs 40,000 lbs. I know Zeus? nope all the spec sheets say "Inboards". Time to call Sea Ray. Shouldn't be an issue. They are the most helpful company that I have ever dealt with. Just saying.

Historically, I believe the weight that Sea Ray cites in promotional material is the weight of the hull and all the crap that's installed at the factory (they've called it "dry weight" in the past). Since there are engine options with most boats, you'd need to add the weight of your specific configuration, then last, but certainly not least, how much liquid and gear you're carrying.

I seem to recall that a gallon of diesel weighs around 10lbs? Water is around 8lbs? I suppose your holding tank depends on if your diet has been mostly beer and vodka, or burritos. :)

Even then, Sea Ray's dry weights have typically been round numbers. We know that's not exact.

The Sea Ray site shows your dry weight as 33,600lbs so you are closer to 36,000lbs or more.

Thanks for the replys guys. If you download the spec sheet for the 2005 it says 33,600 lbs dry weight. If you look at the spec section directly on the website for the 2005 it says 28,000 lbs dry weight, which is quite a difference. Then you look at the 2012 specs on the website and the spec download, it says 40,000 lbs (assuming dry weight). It says "Inboards" Do they really mean Zeus Pods? Do the Zeus pods add that much? What I was really getting at is does Sea Ray play with weights the same way they play with the lengths/versus boat model numbers. Otherwords, If your are comparing boats, you would think that the more expensive boat would weigh more. A 50 ft has to weigh more than the 48 ft. and the 30ft has to weigh more than the 28 ft. to justify more money. For all we know, boats might be actually getting lighter and lighter because they are putting less in them but they have to keep moving the weights around on the spec and websites to keep everything in line and justify the increased prices. Just a thought. Not trying to start anything.

As a for instance. A buddy of mine has a 1997 400 Sundancer. If you down load the spec sheet for that boat, it says the boat weighs 20,000 lbs. I have been on his boat many times, the thing is a beast. The Sea Ray website says the 2012 500 Sundancer (the newest version of my boat) weighs 40,000 lbs. Call me crazy, but there is no way that the dry weight of my boat with or without Zeus weighs twice what my buddys 1997 400 Sundancer with twin Caterpillars weighs. We raft up together all the time. There is just no way my boat is twice as heavy as his. Makes no sense to me. Call me crazy. Do the Sea Ray Marketing guys play games with the spec numbers?

There is information in the "specs sheets" that's always correct: They never mis-spell "SeaRay"

Everything beyond that however, is suspect. To be fair to the 400DA specs, the std engines were gassers - the Cats are so much heavier that you can spot the waterline difference at 100 yards. Look closer though, and mistakes, big mistakes, are very common. They get things wrong like LOA, beam, weight, available engines, tankage...

Use the website specs as a loose reference only. (not to mention, the only place where "dry weight" means anything is inside the factory)

The same situation is with 400DBs. Specs call for 22K lbs which is about 6,000-8,000lbs OFF in reality (according to reports from the owners). I think the number for my 420 is off as well.
