About to take the plunge

Regardless of the twin-single debate. . .in the same hull a boat with twins -should- cost more than a boat with a single. One of those boats is priced wrong. .. .or they are in dramatically different condition.

I hear what you are saying, but they are in 2 different parts of the country with different borkers/sellers. Remember fuel here is almost double to what you guys pay so the Twin is going to be a hard sell under those circumstances. In Europe the more efficient boats command a premium over the bigger more powerful boats. Infact the twin is a year younger and from descriptions/pics the twin is the slightly better boat, but i think the seller is a lot more keen to sell given he has reduced the asking price by £5k gbp / $10k usd which accounts for the even price of the two.

Jeff mentioned he struggled to get his up on the plane with 5 people onboard, i must admit i am a little surprised by this. Does anyone else have experiance of this? Ideally i would prefer the single due to the lower operating costs, but i don't want to be stuck with a boat that wont do what i want with 5 or 6 on board

I think you'd be surprised that the difference in fuel burn between the two setups is just about the same.

You should look at some of the older 280da threads where we all discussed the different engine setups. Also don't forget that the alpha1 drives are much cheaper to maintain than a b3 drive.

Duck...You and I are "in the same boat" haha. I too am in the midst of my first big boat search. I have a thread started "Rookie top ten list" and I agree it can be frustrating. I will give you this piece of advice that was given to me by my brother, a 20 year veteran...."board some boats" Even if they are out of your $ range or prefered style. You will learn a ton about what you do need and what you dont want. As fior the 230 Dancer... It wa smy first love too but be prepared to sleep on a 5' long bed! Board some boats, lay down in the berths, stand in the head. Sorry for babbling but I feel your pain.

Yes it can be frustrating, but i think i have got it down to just being the 270 sundancer. The 230 is gong to be too small given i have a wife and 3 kids  so i would rather buy the right boat with all cash and get a good deal rather than getting a boat now which i then need to trade up in a short while
