We are new to keeping our boat in a wet slip. What are the recommendations on keeping the AC and Frig running while plugged in the slip?

Thanks,

Mike

Absolutely keep the fridge running, I sure wouldn't want to have to pack up the fridge after a weekend... As for the air, I leave mine on a dehumidify setting, keeps the cabin nice and fresh.

We turn our fridge off during the week as we don't keep much in there other than beer and we have to pay for electricity at our dock. As stated above, we also keep the AC on the dehumidify setting which works great.

I leave the refridgerator and AC units on all the time. We leave food items in the frig, by leaving the AC on this will help the frig so it dosn't have to work so hard dealing with the heat on those hot days. I turn the AC up to around 80 degrees or use the humitity setting when I'm not on the boat depending on the weather conditions.

If I am not coming back to my boat for a couple weeks I do not leave the the AC on, I only would leave it on when I know I will be around the frequently.

A few maitainance tips for you:

-Check and clean the air intake filters often
-Check and clean your sea strainer often
-Inspect and replace any damaged hoses or hose clamps on your sea water recirculating system (remember you are pumping sea water through your boat when the AC kicks on, a leak or broken hose in this system would be a deasaster).
-On your frig, the only thing I really do is defrost and clean the freezer once and while.

If your slip is oriented N-S, it's recommended to put the refrigerator side of the boat (port?) on the E side. The afternoon sun on the hull, some say, can cause your fridge, if it's on, to overheat and shorten its life. Having the fridge side on the E lessens this problem, so the theory goes.

Thanks everyone. Looks like we'll be leaving the AC in the dehumidfy mode and the Freg on.

Mike

I choose not to leave the AC on while away from the boat. I prefer not to have a never ending source of water pumping into the boat for days at a time, unattended. If the dehumidify setting works without pumping water, then I would have no objection.

I suspect there are no insurance implications of leaving the AC on unattended, but I would confirm this before doing so.

Mawyatt,
I am from the old school of no running water in my boat when I am not on it, so no AC. As far as the fridge goes, I have had the marina lose their electricty for a couple days, then the fridge goes to 12 volt and drains my house batteries. Just my .02 cents.
