I think I follow. Typically how big of a patch do you cut? By closing the binding do you mean stitch it back together?When we do a repair on this we will remove the snap and sew a small patch over the hole. If possible we will open the edge binding and wrap the patch over the top and bottom side of the canvas or at least tuck under the binding. I will cut the fabric patch out of the same materials using a hot knife so the the edge will not fray on the sides. I will fold over the top edge and leave the small sides on the backing as is. Once the patch is sewn in I will close the binding and reinstall the snap.
