Don't get me wrong, I love boating and all the countless hours of fun it brings. Saturday, I took out our new boat for the second time. We stayed out for the night went to Key Largo the next day and had a wonderful time!
The bad part was coming back on Sunday at 4:00 PM. Our local marina (Blackpoint for Miami CSR's) was jammed almost half a mile from the ramps!! I decided to motor through the line and go spend a couple of hours at the restaurant beyond the ramps. Had a great time there and spent about an hour and a half there. I was monitoring the line most of this time and saw a break in the line so we went to the ramps. We waited maybe 10 minutes before a ramp was available. We docked behind 2 boats and waited until the first one was trailered out of the water. As I was walking towards my truck, I saw that the second boat in front of us was being taken out, so that would put my boat next in line to be pulled out. Some nice fellow boaters helped the wife move the boat forward.
This is where it gets funky, I had to wait in the line of rigs for about 15 minutes. When I got to the front of the line I saw, puzzled, that my boat was no longer next at the spot. There was some other boat with 3 girls putting lipsticks, makeup etc. This boat, my wife said later, had pulled in between 6 other boats and cut in through the middle and pulled in front of us almost hitting my boat. There were 3 guys around this boat and finally got around to pulling the boat, then putting it back, then pulling it, then back in, finally pulling it! Then he stops right after going forward 5 feet, and NOW, starts taking the girls, coolers, towels, water toys, BBQ, and God knows what else off the boat, then he starts putting straps on the boat. At this point, about 15 more minutes of me patiently waiting in line for this guy (I was blocking the whole marina access to other ramps) I walked out of my truck and nicely asked the guy if he could just move the boat to the staging area so that we may pull our boat out. He came at me as if I had pi..ed on his mother! Wanted to fight me, etc (24 year old that thinks he can stop bullets!) He was obviously drunk, so I just downplayed it and just told him that we all want to get home and we have been blocking access due to him staying at that spot. He finally gets in the truck and drives away!!! I now start going to my spot and the rig behind me drives on while I'm turning back and blocks the way behind me!!! I now ask him to move back so that I can back up the truck, he does.....I back up and crank up the boat...While being out there I see the guy that had blocked me the 2nd time yelling at people in front of his boat to "take out that piece of s..t out", honking his train horn, scaring people half to death.
This whole experience left me feeling sorry for these, 21-29 year olds that behave like they own the world....
It's sad that a great boating weekend ends with a bad flavor due to this. Boating is a very friendly sport, I just wish we could all get that friendly at the docks as well......Sorry for the long post, but I had to vent a little this morning.
