Carbon Monoxide Deaths Cherry Grove Fire Island

Terrible. It’s been hot as hell the last several days. I wonder if they were running the genny so they could sleep with the AC on.

The CO may not have even come from their boat. One of the issues of raft ups is exactly this. It is an unfortunate tragedy. It makes a great argument for multiple CO detectors.

We have 2 CO detectors one in the aft bedroom and one in the salon. I needed a survey for insurance and the savory classified the two existing ones as no good. Spent 200 and got two new hard wired ones. They go off when we are cruising some times so guess they work. There is a test button on them that is also a reset button. Got FIREBOY as recommended by people on this site.
Sad if you do not have one. Have relative with a diesel boat that uses a portable MR HEATER propane cabin heat. Keep telling them that a diesel heater is about the same price as a funeral.

A surveyor friend takes a gallon size zip lock bag and captures air from an engine's exhaust and uses that to test CO detectors. Nothing wrong with test buttons but using actual CO gives him more confidence that the detector works.
