Correct manual #

New boat owner, and don't know zero about them. Former auto mechanic so I know the basics. Having a hard time finding correct service manual number.

On the top of the engine cover is a serial number.

Post it and someone should be able to find the engine manual pretty quick.

Thanks. I downloaded this. Lots of information. I wonder if this covers my setup? I need to find out what engine I have. Alpha 1,2,3?

Someone else will have to give you the particulars. "Alpha 1" is the basic Mercruiser outdrive. "Alpha 1, Gen 2" doesn't make major changes. These simple units grind by design as cogs are meshed, not gears. The water impeller is in the water just as in an outboard. Bravos have a water pump being turned by the "fanbelt" and shift quietly with cone clutches. Bravo 3s have two props.

Better for me if I can see inside. What he calls "clutches" on Alphas are usually called "dogs."
