I have been just abused lately. I live on a company credit card for home stuff to boat stuff to work stuff. I carry no cash…. Like maybe $40 at any given time. It’s a chase ink card ….. a few employees have them for work related expenses. They have great point system. I redeem the points for cash every quarter….. which is substantial

But…… the card keeps getting compromised. My current card is 5 weeks old…. This morning chase texts me and asked did you charge $41 for school supplies online last night….. so I know this rabbit hole. I thought for a second …say yes I thought….. then I said no Phuck them….. so I opted for a new card. I have so many auto payments on the card like cell, car, marina, yacht club…. Netflix…. Too numerous to list…. Oh all utilizes at apartment rent…. Just a pain in the ass to switch to a new card.

I asked for two cards to use one for recurring charges and another everyday card to use for meals, gas, Home Depot etc ….stuff I pay in person

You guys have any good ideas ?….. I’m not doing cash or debit card.

Have 1 for business expenses
Have 1 for personal expenses
and a debit card but doesn't get used much,

Yeah, I had this happen with cards I used for business. Lots of travel and hotels wanted the card number and CVV to book. Inevitably not a day after the hotel got the card the fraudulent charges would start. I opened an account for just my recurring charges that I trusted that are generally automated like cell, streaming services, airline travel and insurance. All other bills get paid through the bank. Then I have a card I use for transactions where there is a risk of card theft - gas, restaurants, hotels, groceries, etc. Like you I don't carry a lot of cash unless I'm traveling somewhere that my bank is not. Then I have a third credit card that is only used if the second one is compromised. Probably overkill. But I have been in your position one too many times. One was when I paid for gas at the marina and left my credit card on the counter behind the helm seat. It wasn't there when I got back to my dock. Took 2 days to replace and a week to get all the recurring charges set back up.

Chase is the problem. I carry three cards. Citi/Costco for Restoration Marine business. Citi/Costco for personal expenditures and a United Chase card for travel.

Of the three.....Chase has been compromised 4 times over the past 3 years. The Citi cards have not. I think the Russian hackers cracked the code how they issue numbers at Chase and how the CCV code is assigned. The last one involved a guy in Bulgari buying $5k of airplane tickets which I think is really stupid.

The number for the card was on the dark web for maybe 2 days before Chase caught on. I .....like you ......attach the card to recurring expenditures but I have stopped doing that on the Chase card because it is a pain in the butt to keep up with the changes.

I think it is only a matter of time before they move to two factor authorization if the card is not physically present. Then you would get a SMS on your cellphone requesting authorization for those types of purchases.

And I’m fine with the two factor….. but this current shit show is rediculous

I have citi/Costco but just use it to get into Costco….. another pet peeve

Like highslice, I generally use three cards. One Biz only. Very few problems with that one. One personal I use for all the big things to rack up points. If I am going somewhere where the risk of fraud is high, I use the third. It sucks, but cards are basically open season these days it seems.

I have one card that I only use for recurring payments, nothing else.
Too much of a pain when that one got hacked a few years ago.
One for everyday use and one for online purchases only.
I do carry cash. When we eat out I pay with the card but always tip in cash and I am seeing more and more businesses giving discounts for cash. Last week we stayed at an rv park for a few nights and They said they would take cash, personal check or a card…+3% for the card. The personal check surprised me.

I use Chase it gets compromised at least 1-2 times per year. I have never been responsible for any unauthorized charges so I am OK with their service. On the other hand my daughter had identity stolen and 3x permitted withdrawals from her account AFTER the fraud department was notified. We live in a F@@ked up age. she can only deal with small local banks now.

You don't have to have the credit card to get into Costco. I use the regular Costco card.
I will either use my debit, or Capital One credit card for the purchase.

Settle down @wyrman … I do what my wife tells me to do….. I have no influence over Costco

My pet peeve is showing I’d to get in….. when you can’t leave if you don’t have a membership card

We ran in to a patch when our Chase card got compromised 3 times in about 6-9 months. One was buying fire suppression equipment in Abu Dhabi. Switched to Bank of America, and we’ve been good for several years. I get texts sometimes from B of A inquiring if purchases are legitimate

A fuckin men
I find it better to just have the wife go to Costco, pick up the order and anything else she deems necessary.

Banks used to monitor cards and would block a set value in my non regular travel area. It was a pain but it stopped misuse. When the card was rejected all I had to do was call the bank then they would authorize the payment. They stopped doing this 30 years ago. I have no idea if you can request your bank deny a card in an area you do not frequent. A couple of years ago I got a call from my bank informing me my card had been compromised and there was a $1,300 charge on it they would reverse next statement. No idea how they knew, all they said we monitor cards.

I use Chase cards for both business and personal - never overlap. Business has never been compromised. The personal cards probably get nailed at about the same frequency as everybody else. One thing I learned just recently is that cards linked to Apple Pay have an instant connection back to Chase. In the event of a re-ssue, Apple Pay will have the new card in place within hours and I can begin to use it same day. Same story with recurring charges, if set up with Apple Pay no need to go enter the new numbers or worry about a failed payment. May work with other services and card issuers but I don't use any.

Pretty common issue these days. Hackers are very sophisticated.
We have a separate credit card that we use for only online purchases where they don’t accept Paypal. It has a low limit, and it seems to be the one that gets compromised most often. No autopayments on that one which makes it easier to replace. I use PayPal wherever it is accepted for online buying.

In terms of dark web and hacker security, if you want to try something scary, try Avast’s password leak check. It’s free, but you need to opt out of their sales pitch (its PC and device security software - FYI I use it). You enter your email address and they will send you a report of where that email is used in a website that has been hacked and your information is on the dark web. I got a list of sites AND MY PASSWORDS USED. We immediately started using a Password manager (LastPass) and changed all passwords to random ones that LastPass generates. Anyway, if you want to see what is on the dark web linked to your email and online accounts, give it a try:

@Blueone I used to have that issue with Chase. I had to switch and went with Bank Of America, no real issues since. I get conformation texts once in a while but that's it. I have multiple cards though. Too many actually, one for online only (Amazon mostly), one for reoccurring charges, one for public charges and also my debit card which I consider my wallet also two factor on every financial website.

And I still have the normal issues like everyone else. The biggest issue I see is most cards when re-issued come from TX and are intercepted and used there. I have been hit a few times and always form there.
