It would seem the really bad days are behind us. If I had to speculate .....it would appear a few things were missed during the upgrade including some work on the hosting side. Kudos to the team for finding what was "overlooked" and getting the changes done.
As with most "upgrades" there is a long list of things to do and missing any of them can result in wonky performance.
