Does anyone know what this white RAYTHEON box does??

Here's the helm. Raytheon VHF, Tridata and Autopilot. The pix below this one are taken from BEHIND the helm. Trying to figure out what the white Raytheon box is/does. I am replacing the RL80c with a Garmin 8208 and will be connecting the VHF (for DSC) and the AP via NMEA 0183. Thanks.

Greetings Ron,

On my boat it is the junction box for the gps connection and some NMEA stuff.
 
Above is correct...NMEA 0183 junction box...with a snappy Raytheon logo on the cover. Simple strip connector inside.
 
Cool! Thanks. I will need that to get the AP and VHF DSC to talk to the new display.
