Does anyone know if the 1998 290 da had option of V drive or inboard? I don't like my gear throttle controlls and am thinking of having seperate controls for gear and throttle, is this even possible?

It is possible (in the anything's possible if you throw enough money at it way of thinking). The issue is that most of the single action controls are meant for inboard, or v drive setups and do not have an integrated drive trim switch. That means you have to either kludge together some kind of dashboard trim switch setup, or lay out serious cash for race boat controls like Livorisi that can be built with trim control in the handle. I don't know the current pricing, but I would imagine a four handle Livorsi control with trim switch set up either as two separate units, or a single will be pushing $ 2k, before you buy the cables, hardware and of course installation labor.

no.. They were only IO... But I believe you can install separte controls, but it would probably be cheaper to upgrade to a 310 with Inboards...

My 2000 290 AJ came factory with dual controls (with Bravo II's). The trim switches are on the dash. No issues here at all. Actually, a lot of boats have this set up. Not that uncommon and very easy to convert (providing you have the room to mount the other shifter.)
