I was thinking about investing in an engine alignment tool so I can check my own alignment when I take the drives off for maint. The variation in price for these hunks of steel is pretty high. You can get an aftermarket one on E bay for around $30. (I think they're made by a local shop called Heartland Products) I also see "brand name" versions at the usual marine retailers at $95-130. Anbody have any bad experience with the bargain versions you can get on E Bay ?

All it is a specific diameter rod or shaft.
There's no magic to it at all........as long as the eBay ones are the correct dimensions, I can't think of any reason why the bargain ones wouldn't work.

I have one too and very happy. Get the one that has the extra tools like gimbal bearing install tool

+1 on the eBay kit. The alignment tool and all the adapters work great. Good to have for sure.
