does anyone know how to open the main hydrolic engine hatch on a 38 da when there is no power on the boat?

Other than recharging the batteries in some way (genset, charger, etc.; the lift is electric) you have 2 other options:

1. with all loads turned off except the engine start, boost the electrical system using a spare battery or one of those "booster" boxes for starting cars, etc. plugged into the 12v. inlet at the helm (using the SR supplied cables with a 12 v. plug on one end and loose +ve and -ve cables at the other for terminal connection.)
2. there will be an inspection port directly above the lift. Unscrew it and pull the pin. (It's a good idea to make sure that the pin will detach toward the port and not the other direction in advance.) Once the pin is pulled, two husky guys should be able to lift the hatch.

Is this of any help?

Wow, this sounds like a real pain in the a**.:smt021

warren - you took the words right out of my mouth, you are exactly right.

Be careful! The hatch on this boat is VERY heavy, watch your fingures!
